Caricature theme - Man-U fans & Babysitter

Client's brief:-
".....where the theme is concerned..my dad's hobbies is watching manchester united play on tv.my mom's a housewife (cooking and cleaning) and she babysits babies..it's their 30th wedding anniversary...."

Couple caricatures 39th wedding anniversary Man-U fans and Babysitter
I chose the babysitting for the mom.
I think it can create some interaction and conflict with the dad who is watching Man-U soccer on television.
I have her babysitting the hungry and crying baby, and the dad ignoring her. She's so pissed off and knock the sofa his sitting in. To make it more comical, I have the Man-U soccer player seeing this scenario from the tv he's in. Not so sweet as a wedding anniversary gift. Hahaha...... but since the client lets me have a free play on the caricature, I decided to give it a shot.
The blue-striped (textile) cushion is what I like to draw in the last decade. Put it in again after so many years. Nostalgia?! Could be.

Email from the client:-
"Hi Jit,
When my sister brought the caricature home, i was amazed at how
close the resemblance was.
my parents saw the caricature and they were most surprised and pleased
with it. it was a very memorable wedding anniversary for them.
wishing you all the best in your career.
May you continue to produce such magical work.

Caricature theme - Dance to Your Dreams!!!

Client's brief:-
"I would like to order for a caricature in colour marker with theme – with background and body.
Attached is the picture of my friend.
Some characteristic of hers:

She loves dancing – she is backstage dancer for singers
Loves wearing casual and sporty clothes (such as jogging tracks)

....If ok, please add this:

Dance to your dreams"

Caricature Dance to Your Dreams
My initial draft was to have her doing some silly postures behind the singer, and the audience laughing with tears.
Then, I saw the heading in the client's subsequent email - Dance to Your Dreams!
Looks like got to draw her as a professional dancer, instead of a clown.
In order to spice up the drawing, I need to add in some cartoon characters, to get the effect I want to achieve.
My concept for this caricature is - her dance is so good that she snatches the attention away from the singer.
The client's comment is 'very nice!" upon receiving this framed caricature.

The Godfather IV poster

This client used to have drawings done by me in Clarke Quay.
I met him again at Fish & Co few months back.
As usual, I can't remember my clients' faces. Hahaha...
He was the one who asked me whether I am the artist who used to work in Clarke Quay.
I said yes, and passed him my business card.

He made an enquiry via email few weeks later. That was a caricature request, and his colleagues didn't like the idea, and thus dropped the idea.

Now, he came back with another request.
He came out with the following draft, but wanted Al Pacino to be replaced by his bosses' face, complete with the following text.
The Godfather IV movie poster client's draft
Can't do this in the caricature form, as he requested it to be done as portrait.
Not logical to write out every words with a black background.
Thus, I proposed to have the portrait drawn out in colour marker (to lower the cost), scan it into softcopy and do the necessary artwork and graphic layout in computer. When this is done, we will print this out as a poster and frame it up. He agreed.

However, the price will be higher, as more work was involved. Hence, he requested to do it with the white background, and black text, to cut down the cost.
But I told him that we won't be able to achieve the sombre feel of The Godfather III poster, when the background is white. Compare the following artwork with the movie poster. It is totally opposite. He thus agreed to stick close to the movie poster.
Portrait illustration The GodFather IV poster original
This is the original handdrawn artwork.
Scanned into softcopy.

Portrait illustration The GodFather IV poster edited
I increased the canvas size to easy manoeuvre later for graphic purposes. Added in the shadow on the face (with airbrush in Photoshop), to get close to the feel of the poster. Sprayed in the background colours. Now, we are almost there - this guy is in darkness now.

Portrait illustration The GodFather IV poster edited with text (flattened)
Cropped it according to the position and proportion as in the movie poster.
Edged out The Godfather logo. Took out the 2 'I"s, added in a 'V'.
Now, you see The Godfather Part IV.
Got the 'Dolby Digital' and 'Paramount' logo on Google Images. Edged out and changed to the colour as in the poster.
Didn't have the exact font as seen in the original text. The closest I can get was Times New Roman, but the proportion was too wide. After typing in, I have to rasterize and change their proportions.
I didn't put in the rest of the names, as they are not cleared, and not quoted in the price too.
Done! Quite a satisfying job.

My frame supplier thought it was a movie poster when I sent to him for framing.
Heehee..... I achieved the effect.

The client said "Amazing!" upon receiving the framed artwork. Now, he understood what I meant when I show him the original portrait and the done-up poster.

Caricature for Procter & Gamble (P&G) International

Caricature P&G Holland soccer player
The client who ordered this caricature, used to commission me for another caricature when I busk in Orchard Road. Now, she works in P&G, and wants to give her colleague/boss(?) a farewell caricature.
He loves soccer. She requests him to be in Holland jersey, since he's from Holland.
Singapore landmarks like Singapore Flyer, Merlion and Esplanade are added in too, since it is a gift from his colleagues from Singapore P&G branch.
Noticed my style changes? I didn't draw a full soccer field. I 'arch' the field, eliminate the edge. Think it looks a lot better and less restrained graphically. Do you think so too?

Caricature for Larsen Oil & Gas

Client's brief:-
"As per our telecon earlier, I attached some pics of my boss, Geir the
Caucasian elderly guy.

It would be on A4 - Caricature in colour marker with theme - with background
& body.

Here's the theme:

He loves fishing, so I guess fishing theme with a big rod and big
smile(DSC00098) of him looking at the mermaid(s) couple of them I suppose on
the rig. The rig should be close to the sea. Don't need to do a big rig,
just a small one will do. Can you add in PetroProd D&P1 on the rig - that's
our project name. "

Caricature Larsen Oil & Gas fishing mermaid rig A4
It will be too tight to put in a few mermaids in this caricature, as I need to take into consideration for the rig structure. I opted for just 1 mermaid, to allow some space for breathing in this A4 caricature. (Usually, I do it on an A3 size paper.) The client agreed.
To make it more comical, I have the mermaid in his arm, with her covering her breasts with both arms, looking shocked, after being hooked out of the deep sea.

Feedback I get from her:-
"Hi Jit

Thanks for the good pic and we are all glad that our boss like the picture.
Keep up the good work!

Best Regards,
Aida Bujang"

Caricature order from Australia

family caricatures in ink 160508
The client resides in Australia.
She places a caricature order for this family, staying in Yishun, Singapore.
Requested me to mail it to them upon completion.
Sent her this softcopy upon completion, before posting it out, as a proof of work done.
You might have noticed - only fountain pen used again.
Any difference?

Feedback from the client:-
"Hey Jit,
That looks fantastic! Thanks for the great work!

Group caricatures for Seagate

This client saw this job for Aberdeen Asset on my blog, and wanted something similar, together with the mousepads. She told me the caricatures are for the seminar, and the mousepad will be given out to her staff.
Caricatures Seagate pencil sketch
Put them closer together. It should reflect the integrity of the team better.
Very sketchy pencil sketch?
Yes, trying to sculpture the caricatures out.

Caricatures Seagate ink
Cleaner with the inking done.

Caricatures group Seagate
Completed with the colours.
This (scanned-in) artwork will be used in the client's Powerpoint presentation.

Caricatures group Seagate mousepad artwork
Didn't put in the Seagate corporate green colour, since the client didn't requested for that.
I used a bright red for the background. It should look bright on mousepads, and more durable against the dirt. Added in their names as per requested. Increased the canvas size, to allow for bleeding, so that my mousepad supplier has the freedom to crop this graphic for mousepad printing.

The mousepads aren't in a hurry. The client told me that she only needs them by month end.
Post up the mousepad photo here when they are done.

Seagate Group caricatures printed on 11 mousepads
Mousepads finally done on 18th June 2008.

Caricature order from Italy

I have to say I really love this caricature, especially the proportion of this Mitsubishi Triton, and the big wheel.
The biggest difference here is that I only use fountain pen for this caricature, instead of the usual G-Pen and brush. The main reason is that I think I can get better linework with my fountain pen here, in terms of the geometry of the car. (Another very minor reason is I am quite pissed off with another 'copy cat'. When I mentioned in my blog, that I use G-pen for my caricatures, he started using it too. Welles tells me that maybe I should mention that I use G-string. Hahaha..... See how he figures out to use it for drawing. Just kidding.)
Caricature Mitsubishi Triton
Back to this drawing, I pay extra attention to the details tyre track. I want to make it look 3-dimensional. Took longer than usual for this job, as I fall in love with car caricatures recently.
Anyway, the result is satisfying.
The client is residing in Ancona, near Rimini in Italy.
Quite near to Pietra Ligure (a very nice place) which I went last June.
He didn't request for the original artwork to be shipped to him, just need the high resolution scanned-in softcopy to be uploaded to my server for him to download.

Feedback from him:-
"GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!
very nice pictures

thank you very much"

Caricature theme - jogging @ East Coast Park

These orders were placed together with the previous caricatures, just that this 2 orders were not urgent.
Caricature colour lady 130508
This one for her own keepsake.
See the difference in pencil and colour.

Couple caricatures jogging at East Coast Park
This one for her boyfriend. She requested a jogging theme at East Coast Park.
Significant features of the park is the pavillion, the barbeque pit, and the green trash bin, along the beach.
I like to put in cartoon snail or tortoise in my caricatures 10 over years ago, when I just started drawing caricatures. After so many years, I put them in again. No specific reason. Just to add some touch to the drawing.

Feedback I get from the client:-
"Dearest Jit,

I have received the caricature - East Coast theme! Wowwwwwwwwww!!! I love it soooo much! Thanks so much! I love it the moment it caught my eyes! Im sure my boyfriend will love the drawing! Thanks so much Jit for your effort.

By the way Jit, you happened to draw one very important item in my picture -- which is the shelter hut along East Coast Running Track. Haha, by coincidence, my bf and I got together at one of the hut there 2 years ago. Wow, when I saw the hut - the drawing, I thought it adds on MORE meanings to the drawing! Lovely!

Appreciate it! Thanks once again!

With lots of thanks,
Genevie"

Such clients are lovely. Not because of the compliments, but the feedback they gave. At least, I know how they feel about my work, from their feedback.

Caricature theme - Liverpool soccer player

Caricature Liverpool 130508
The client gave me a few theme. Chose a soccer theme for him.

"I am fine with a soccer theme, though preferably in Red jersey because my friend is a Liverpool fan. "

Besides presenting this as birthday gift, his main aim for this caricature is to cheer her up, as she is rather down lately.

Looking for me?

Received 2 enquiries today, and happened that they are looking for me, but don't know that I am the artist who used to do the caricatures for them.

Enquiry 1:-
Coca-Cola group caricatures snapshot by client
This guy attached the above file in his email.

"Hi Jit Leong,
Came across your website whilst googling for it, and I love your works!
I actually looking for a caricature artist to replicate the picture as attached for your reference. In addition, I also need to add in a few missing persons who are omitted from this picture......."

"Thanks for your prompt reply.
I've attached a copy of the past caricature that we've used, and do you have any idea how much it will cost for this?"

"Thanks for your email.....
......Well, I was trying hard to locate the artiste who drew that, and whilst googling for caricature artistes I came upon you.
I must say that I really love that piece of work, it was great!
However, I guess I need to give the chance to work with you a miss then, as I need the picture to be ready for a event on the 29th.
Nonetheless, thanks for your prompt reply, and I do look forward to working with you again."

"I'm afraid I need the picture to be in by the 26th May, because we will be printing cards as well, and need to cater in extra time for printing and production.
We are looking at around 40 odd people around a Coca-Cola banner....."

Didn't get the job, but glad that he loves this artwork. It is my record too, with the highest number of people (87) done in 1 drawing, and every caricature is very small in size. (second is job for Phillip Morris)

Thought I have put in my website url clear enough in that drawing? Seems like it is too small to be seen. Some clients asked me not to put in the url in my drawings. Some clients told me that they are glad to be able to find me again for more drawings, thanks to the url. I like the latter, as that's my purpose (and quality-guaranteed) for including in all my drawings.

Enquiry 2:-
A Citibank client requested a Citibank staff to look for a caricaturist to do a job. He said that he has his wedding caricatures done by an artist in Clarke Quay, who has a booth there. Told that staff that I am the artist. Gave her the link on my website as the proof.

Seems like my 8.5 years of hardwork in Clarke Quay wasn't down in the drain. Just a pity that I didn't do enough publicity of my company "Portrait Workshop' at my pushcart. They know that there is a portrait and caricature artist stationed in Clarke Quay, but can't remember my name or my company name. Didn't realise the importance of marketing in those early years till 2 years ago, when I get to know an artist online. He taught me the importance of marketing, beside having a good drawing skill and producing good artworks.

Wedding @ Chicago

Getting quite a number of oversea orders lately.
This is an order from Chicago, USA.

"Hi Jit - We would like to have you do a caricature for us that we would like to use for our wedding invitation. I've attached three pictures of us. Hopefully the quality on these images are good enough for you to do the drawing from.

We want our caricature to be similar in style to this one:
http://www.caricature.com.sg/2006/12/caricature-theme-wedding-in-sentosa.html

Since we are using it for a wedding invitation card, we would like you to draw it in a similar fashion as that caricature with the following ideas:

- Please do not exaggerate or enlarge our smiles/mouths too much
- Please no crooked smiles
- Please have the groom in a tuxedo with a black bowtie (not the long tie) and the bride in a white wedding gown holding a red flower bouquet
- Please have the groom carrying the bride (like in the caricature above)
- Please have the Chicago skyline as the background of our caricature (emphasize Sears Tower and other Chicago landmarks - as in this picture http://www.richard-seaman.com/USA/Cities/Chicago/Landmarks/ChicagoSkyline1.jpg)
- Please have the groom on the left side of the picture and the bride on the right side (like in the caricature above)
- Please do the drawing in landscape format (width of picture is greater than height)
- Since we are using this for our invitation, could you please make the edges of the caricature end nicely (as in the caricature above) with no straight edges so we can manuever the graphic on our wedding card for a better layout.

In addition to the actual physical drawing, we would like you to do a high-resolution scan so we can access the caricature via Internet and download it.

How long do you think it will take you to finish our caricature so we can download it? We are excited to see how it will turn out. We do not need express, just normal timing and shipping for the actual caricature.

Please send us a quote and we will send you the payment via Paypal asap.

Thanks!

--Phuc and Sherry "

Caricatures couple wedding @ Chicago A4
Seems like there's still market for pretty caricatures oversea.
They don't want to look awful and exaggerated in the caricatures, and in their wedding invitation card.
In fact, I am very tempted to draw his crooked smile when I saw his photo. Hahaha....... but as a professional artist, I should draw what the client requested.

As soon as I get the caricatures done, I scan it at high resolution and uploaded to my server for them to download. These files are just too huge to be sent via email. The original artwork is then posted out to them via registered and normal shipping mail.

Feedback from the client upon seeing the downloaded artwork:-
"Jit - The caricature looks great."

Yes!!! Hit rate getting higher and higher. I need to keep it up.

Caricature for Deloitte

A returned customer.
Her brief"-
"Hi Jit Leong,
The caricature is a farewell gift for the person below (Mike) and below are some background info of my desired portrait.......
1) With Mike's head sticking out of the GTR (picture attached) <> , pls indicate GTR on the centre of the rims of the car and a Motorola V3 at his ear with a sticker that reads "SingTel Mobile" rather than just SingTel.

2) There will be word bubbles with the respective names in my ugly sketch and I have attached the various fonts that these logos need to be in .....

3) Mike will be driving pass the Comcentre building in the GTR.

We will like the portrait in A3 and coloured like the originals except for the car, please have it in red.. We will also assume Mike's head will be the most prominent sticking out of the window of the car.
.......Do let me know the cost along with a transparent frame and we will need it by 12 May 2008."
Caricature Deloitte Singtel Mobile Nissan GTR
She attaches her draft for me too in her email. So now, everything is pretty straightforward. My job is to draw out what she wants.
What I can play here was the car caricature. I used to hate drawing cars, but different case now. I enjoy drawing them. I begin to feel the characteristic and essence of each car when I caricature it. After I have finished a car caricature, I look forward to another one, wondering what will be the next car brand and model. That's the satisfaction which I get from drawing!

Caricature Deloitte Singtel Mobile Nissan GTR acrylic frame
She opted for an transparent acrylic frame, and it is not cheap. It costs a lot more than the drawing. Surprised? No choice, as the supplier charged higher for the workmanship in chamfering the edges, and care taken to prevent any scratches before it is delivered to the client's hand. But it looks really sleek and sexy.

Caricature theme - wedding @ Forum Galleria

Client's brief:-
".....Would like to get you to draw the two of us sharing an Ice Blended and a slice of cheesecake at Coffee Bean Tea Leaf outlet (alfresco) at Forum Galleria Shopping Mall - that's where we first met =)
I intend to have this as a table-top centrepiece for my guestbook signing area. Thanks! "

Caricatures couple wedding at Forum Coffee Bean
No time to go down to Forum to snap a picture of the Coffee Bean. Tried searching the images online. I can only get the partial facade image of the Forum, and signboard of other The Coffee Bean outlets.
Don't know how the Forum facade ends. So, I decided to turn the limitation of the resources into design and layout of this caricature.
I put the main facade in the centre, where the couple is having the cheese cake, and didn't extend more, as I don't want to make it to look like a photo.
I presume it is an outdoor cafe, but the serving area is indoor. Thus, I put it under the Forum.
You will be surprised, as the time I took to draw the setting was longer than to draw the couple. The latter was drawn first, as I am still thinking what to do with the setting, and doesn't want the setting to interfere with the caricatures. Then, I slowly do up teh pencil sketch, inking and colouring of the setting.
I am pretty satisfied with the outcome. I think it looks good (and I have to say that this bride looks beautiful, which helps to spice up this artwork to a great extent.). It is such client's idea which makes my portfolio more interesting, at least not those few wedding designs which I usually do.

Wedding caricatures @ Forum Coffee Bean framed up
Looks even better when it is framed up.

Feedback from the client:-
"Hi Jit,
I came across our caricature on your webbie... I think you did a marvellous job with moi *smiles*."

Caricature theme - starry night

Caricature SAF uniform starry night
The client wanted her boyfriend in army uniform, and with stars in the caricature.
Quite hard to put them together and yet got to look good.
If this is a couple caricatures, can still make it looked romantic. Perhaps at a beach with starry night.
Given a solo caricature, I can only make him look as cute as possible, with the shorter body and big boots. Added in a big moon to contrast with the starry night background.

Caricature theme - seed of love

Client's brief:-
"This is Sharon here. I rang you up sometime back and enquired about wedding caricature. After a discussion with my husband-to-be, we decided to entrust you the great task of drawing a wedding caricature for us to front our wedding invitation card. We understand that the norm wedding caricature pic is a couple dressed in wedding gown and suit riding on a bike or car with a flag saying 'we are married', however, we have a different request. Could you draw us in wedding gown and suit planting a seed, or a sapling which symbolises planting a tree of love. Well, this is our rough idea, we are open to better ideas or professional advice."

Couple caricatures tree of love
The fun part of this caricature is their expression.
My kids keep asking me what they look like that?
My son is curious what the guy is doing, looking at his expression.

Since this is a caricature in ink, I used the G-Pen and brush for the face, fountain pen for the rest, as I think I can get a more comics feel with it. To make the style consistent, I thicken the outline and the darker part.
Haven't draw such bird for a long time. Used to include it very often in my early days of drawing. Hahaha..... added in this 'antique' again.

Feedback from the client:-
"Hi Jit,
Thanks for the great job done! We are both very satisfied with the end product and believe that it would make a very lovely front for our wedding invitation card. ;p

Cheers,
Soon Wai & Sharon "

Caricature theme - ORD

Client's brief:-
"Found your website online, saw your gallery and really liked your caricatures with theme.

I would like to place an order for a caricature of me and my fiance in color marker with theme (i.e. with background and bodies).
Would also like to get it framed without inner borders.

Am getting it for his upcoming 27th birthday on 6th May 2008...hehe... think he'll like it.

I've attached the photos of me and him for your reference.

Some more information about us to give you ideas for the theme...

He's currently in army but will be ORDing soon in Oct 2008 and he's really looking forward to it as he rather dislikes SA(armed)F worklife. Hence, I want to get him something that will cheer him up till then.
He likes to road cycle (has a TREK road bike in navy blue) and likes to play soccer. His fav team is Man U.
As for me, I'm just a regular girl, no special interests...
Our fav disney cartoons are Beauty and the Beast and The little mermaid.

I thought of exchanging outfits for both of us in the caricature as it'll be quite funny, i.e. for example, I'm wearing the guy outfit e.g. a Man U Jersey and he's wearing Ariel's outfit or the Beauty's yellow gown.
Also, I could be the one carrying him in my arms rather than the usual cliched "guy-carry-girl" thing.
And we are smiling happily and saying "yay, ORD lo!!"

Couple caricatures bike Army Camp Man-U Soccer Field
Proposed to have them on the bicycle, with the guy stripping and throwing off the army uniform, towoards the army camp. And they are on their way to the soccer field, with the Man-U jersey waiting for him. She agreed, and thus you see the birth of this caricature.

Graduation portraits in colourpencil

family graduation portraits in colourpencil
This client used to order some caricatures from me last November.
This time for her mum, as they don't really have a nice studio-taken graduation shot.
So, she passed me an album with all those outdoor graduation shots.
My job as to put them together in 1 drawing.
The painful side here was the lighting are not the same for all these shots.
Close lighting direction one, either the smile isn't good, or not sharp.
After some painful decisions, I chose these 3 photos.
Got to lighten the shadows/shades on the mum's and daughter's faces. Added in some shades on the son's face, so that they looked like they are all snapped together in one shot.
The daughter (client) requested to have her hair long. Thus, some imagination here.

To be frank, I don't realy like to draw graduation portraits, especially the graduation gown and mortar boards in colourpencil, as my black colourpencil isn't dark enough. I have to put in extra effort to make it dark. This is especially worse when I am using the cross-hatching method. However, this is my profession. Got to do it nice and good-looking, even though it takes up more time and effort. Thankfully, shortly after the client collected the portraits, I received an email from her:-

"A short thank you note

Hi Jit,
Just to drop you a note that my mom likes the portriat you have drawn. It's really beautiful and looks like us. Thanks!

Best Regards,
Patricia Mah"

Order from Germany......

Couple wedding caricatures Singapore River Merlion Germany Noerdlingen Daniel Tower
Client's brief"-
"Hi Jit Leong,

I got your contact details from my friend, who used your drawing for her wedding invitation cards last year. My fiancee and myself were so impressed with your super works and decided to contact you for our special day :)

Just a little background, Georg is a German and I am a Singaporean. We had a long distance relationship for about 3 years and in 2006, I finally moved to Europe. We are living in Wuerzburg, Germany and thus our wedding will be also held here in June. We are looking at the caricature in pencil with theme - with background BUT no body. The picture that I am sending you is of both of us sitting down on a bench but its taken half, that is why we want with no body. We would like the caricature to be in landscape. The background theme, for myself - Singapore landmark like the "Merlion by the River". As for Georg, his hometown is Noerdlingen and the pic attached is of the "Daniel Tower". http://www.noerdlingen.de/ISY/index.php?get=291 this website shows the perspective of the whole Tower thats attached to the Church. We are open to some suggestions/ideas also :) "

This client is very unique. She wants her cap on with porny tail, but no need wedding gown and suit for both of them. I have the Merlion, Singapore River and the bum boat behind her, while the Daniel Tower behind the bridegroom. It is their cheeky expression (with tongues sticking out) which makes this caricature fun. If not, it could turn out quite plain.

Feedback from the client:-
"Hi Jit Leong,

We received the drawing in good order. We were impressed with the email that you sent and even more with the actual portrait received in hand. The printing went well and cards have been sent out.

Vielen Dank fuer alles (In english translation - thank you for everything)

Best Regards
Carmelita & Georg Held"

Dancing silhouette artworks retouched

William (his business is doing stage props etc, but can't remember how I get to know him. Hahaha.....) looked for me weeks ago, said that he needed me to do some simple silhouette drawings for one of his client. I was too tight up then. Thus recommended Ivan to him.Last week, he callled me again, said he still needs me to do it for him. Huh? Thought Ivan has done the job for him. In the end, one party seems like doesn't want to do his job, as the other party didn't make it clear enough of what he wants. The latter think the former can't do it, even without seeing his work. Then, this job came back to me.
artwork dancing silhouette 1 before retouch
These 2 artworks were done by an artist when William's client went to Thailand.
As you can see, there are dots everywhere on the 2 artworks, due to mosture and oxidisation (perhaps?!). William asked me to redraw accordingly.
I am quite reluctant to do so.
First, this is not my style. Upon completion, do I still sign my name on it?
Second, the gray tone of the skirts are hard to reproduce them in the same way. Though William said don't have to follow very closely, I still think his client wanted the original style and strokes as it is.
Thus, I proposed to have these artworks (longer than A2 size) scan into softcopies and do digital touch-up for him. He can then send it out for printing. The client can keep the softcopies on cd for future printing, in case these printouts are spoilt again. He agreed, but asked me to do the printing for him. However, my schedule is really tight. I would rather spend my time on my jobs on hand, then to spend time on the trip to the printing shop, doing all those stuff.

Caricatures in pencil

caricatures pencil 010508
A pretty simple job, and didn't expect to get a response from my client.

"Hey Jit,

Thanks so much for your drawing on Dennis!
When he received the caricature, he was amazed! And he likes it lots.
You are indeed very talented.

Anyway, thanks for the 1st caricature done on Dennis.
I will be waiting for the caricature of myself + the couple caricature.
Yup... thanks

Genevie "

Touched! Happy!

Caricature theme - wakeboarding

Email from the client:-
"I came across your website when I was surfing for a caricature artist for my godson's birthday. I planned to give him a caricature drawing for his birthday which is in May. I meant to go down to your shop but I found out that you are moving out. So, hence I decided to email instead. My godson will be 19 this year. He is an avid wakeboarder so I hope to feature a caricature of him wakeboarding. I would like one in colour, the one where markers is used. Size-wise, I'm hoping for a reasonably big one (maybe A3 or A2, maybe you can advise), complete with frame. "
Caricature wakeboarding
The photo provided by the client, shows her godson in action. Background is Marina Bay. The bright colour seats which we saw in the National Day Parade (NDP) can be seen. Thus, I retained it in this caricature. Made the buildings less static. Then I play on the waves, which I always loves to.
However, what I like most in this drawing, is the proportion of the figure. Bigger hands, smaller shoes, as compared to the hands. Slim and fit body, with the loose bermuda, to bring out the youthful and cheerful part of this teenager.
The client told me that it looks very nice. Thank you. I like it too. Didn't expect such result upon receiving this order initially. Sometimes, when I draw, I get some inspiration and catalyst, it will help to spice up the whole drawing. This is the satisfaction which Iget from drawing!

Google PageRank 4 for my Blog!!!

Great day to remember!!!
My blog Google PageRank is just upgraded to 3 to 4 today!!!
Hooray!!! Same PageRank as my website now. 6 months 2 days from the last upgrade.
Have been waiting anxiously, and becoming impatient, and I know it is very hard to move from PageRank 3 to 4, and it is a less than 2 years old blog. Looks like my consistent hardwork pays off. So touched!!!
Even those urls with 'caricature(s)' are ranked 3.
Must work harder from now on.
Rank 5 6 months later?Heehee..... Getting greedy.......
Have been getting request to exchange links on my blog and website recently. Some even requesting to place ads on them, especially on my blog. Got to really give it a thought, whether they are useful/harmful to my blogs and website, in terms of ranking and SEO.

Caricature of Cristiano Ronaldo

The second commissioned sample.
Cristiano Ronaldo
"Jit
Attached are pictures of 1 player, Cristiano Ronaldo. Could you draw him being ecstatic after scoring a goal."

caricature Cristiano Ronaldo pencil sketch
Does not have any impression of this guy. Must be a very popular soccer player since I heard Wilfred and Adam talk about him. I only know that Brazil Ronaldo (from last two World Cups). Hahaha.... Ya, very outdated.

Emphasized on his mouth too. Another prominent feature will be his standing curly hair. He has a pair of pretty eyes too. Since the client requested ecstatic, I added in tears coming out from his eyes.
caricature Cristiano Ronaldo ink outline
This fist-clenching posture is inspired from what I read in those comic books. It enhances the overall feel, I think.

caricature Cristiano Ronaldo colour watermark
A lot more substance with the colours added on. Opted for a borderless background, to lighten up the whole caricature, since we are looking at ecstatic. Cannot be too static.

I should know the result soon, whether I am awarded this project. If the client doesn't like these 2 caricatures, I have nothing to say, since I have done my best based on their brief. Then we have to see what styles the other local cariatursists can come out with, in order to get this job.

Unique wedding theme

Couple caricatures unique wedding
Client's brief:-
"Below is the description of the drawing which I hope to see
1) girl will be on the left of page, guy will be on the right
2) both people will be wearing wedding suit / gown (but instead of proper dress shoes, they can be wearing soccer boots)
3) Girl will be holding on to a paintball marker with her right hand and left hand will be over the shoulders of the guy
4) Guy will be holding on to a camera with his left hand and right leg will be stepping on a soccer ball
Attached are the reference pictures
1) Paintball Marker (redsevens169.jpg or 98custom.jpg)
2) Camera (Nikon_d3_14-24.jpg)
3) Soccer ball (adidas-soccer-ball.jpg)
4) Guy and Girl’s face (Europe(24dec-1jan07) 031 – rheinfall, schauffhausen, Switzerland.jpg)"

Not the usual wedding design which I always draw.
Reminds me of the recent movie Ah Long Pte Ltd" (老师嫁老大) by Jack Neo (梁智强), though the groom is not the 'gu niang' type. Maybe it is because of the bride's hand over his shoulder.

Caricature theme - princess

Client's request:-
"Chanced upon your website and would like to place an order for a caricature in marker with theme? Just like the goddess sample in page 1........I'm referring to the phyllis quek picture. Please view the attachment. Also, would like to add a little character, just a guy clad in casual wear(any casual attire will do) at the side of the portrait, looking up at the portrait from the side."
Caricature princess
Took out the thumbs up posture as seen in Phyllis Quek's caricature. Think that was done sometime in 2000-2001. A bit outdated, and I don't think it looks good for a lady.
Gave her a more demure posture.
Upon receiving the caricature, the client thinks that the guy looks too big. Maybe too loud to him as an admirer. Heehee.... He requested me to paint over him with some background. However, the nature of the colour marker medium is translucent. I can't cover it like that. Thus, I proposed to have the lady caricature cut out and pasted on a colour mounting board, which should make it look better otherwise. He agreed.

Caricature princess cutout
Pasted it on a beige creamy colour board. Smooth and flat colour. No traces of overlapping lines as seen using colour markers.

Caricature princess cutout framed
Looks even better with a simple blue colour frame without border.
