Client's request:-
"Chanced upon your website and would like to place an order for a caricature in marker with theme? Just like the goddess sample in page 1........I'm referring to the phyllis quek picture. Please view the attachment. Also, would like to add a little character, just a guy clad in casual wear(any casual attire will do) at the side of the portrait, looking up at the portrait from the side."
Took out the thumbs up posture as seen in Phyllis Quek's caricature. Think that was done sometime in 2000-2001. A bit outdated, and I don't think it looks good for a lady.
Gave her a more demure posture.
Upon receiving the caricature, the client thinks that the guy looks too big. Maybe too loud to him as an admirer. Heehee.... He requested me to paint over him with some background. However, the nature of the colour marker medium is translucent. I can't cover it like that. Thus, I proposed to have the lady caricature cut out and pasted on a colour mounting board, which should make it look better otherwise. He agreed.
Pasted it on a beige creamy colour board. Smooth and flat colour. No traces of overlapping lines as seen using colour markers.
Looks even better with a simple blue colour frame without border.

Mr Q's Q-Digital caricatures and some new products....
I have been looking for artists to work with Portrait Workshop all these years.
Recently, just get in touch with an artist (Mr Q) who does his caricatures digitally, using Adobe Illustrators. His style is totally different from mine. I think the caricatures look clean, unique and cute. Very comic style. That's why he called it Q-Digital caricature. (Q- 版漫畫肖像 in Chinese.)
These caricatures come with the following templates which he has pre-drawn.
(As to create all these templates take up a lot of time, he doesn't do customised designs currently.)
Your caricatures will be drawn, based on the photo you provide.
He's quoting SGD$55 for each face drawn.
You will get a high resolution hardcopy printout at A4 size (21cm x 29.7cm).
On top of that you will get an A6 size (10.5cm x 14.85cm, 150dpi) softcopy in jpeg format for your keepsake.
When you have the caricatures drawn, you can opt to have it on other templates at half the current price.
Wedding caricatures template.
Taiwan setting.
Superman and Supergirl caricatures template.
Names can be added in at no extra charge.
Strawberry garden template.
Spiderman caricature templates - with or without mask on the head.
Dating at the park template.
Cupids in paradise template.
Office template.
Dating under the moonlight.
Korean theme template.
Japanese theme template.
Hip-hop theme template.
Harry Porter theme template.
Freestyle template.
Doctor and nurse template.
Chinese tea-time template.
Hawaiianbeach template.
Superband template.
Air steward and stewardess template.
Baseball theme template.
Christmas theme with bare chest template.
Another Christmas theme couple caricatures template, but with different clothing.
Traditional Chinese wedding couple caricatures template.
Once the caricatures are done, you can opt to print on the following products.
Caricatures on square cushion.
Caricatures on long cushion.
Caricatures printed on ceramic tiles, and framed up.

Printing on ceramic tiles are very unique and new products.
I bet it will have a good demand, especially for those newly-wed couple who will be renovating their new house. Can include in their wall tilings in the kitchen and bathroom.
Maybe I can propose to Mr Q to do up templates of couple cooking as well as bathing in bathtubs.

Back of the tiles and frames.
Caricatures printed on the mugs.
Caricatures printed on 2D bobblehead.

Couple colour caricatures on mousepad

This is the original artwork.
Scanned and added in a background colour for this mousepad artwork, so that it will look sweet and nice on the mousepad eventually.
Change dthe text to what the client requested.
In the end, what happened?
I sent out the wrong artwork, and only realised when I collected it.
Damn! And it was too late, as the client will be coming in a few hours' time.
Called her, but she said she will take a look.
Told her that I can do another one for her if she wants.
But she was quite happy upon receiving the end product.
She said that if she want, she will order from me another mousepad, using the correct artwork.

Carucature theme - travel

Both of them loves travel.
They have been to many places like China, Thailand, Japan, US, Australia.
I drew in Great Wall of China, Thai temple, Mount Fuji, San Francisco Bridge, and Sydney Opera House.
All of them are these respective countries landmark.
She wanted him with muscular arms. Both holding maps.
I made some changes for this travelling theme, instead of both in one direction, I have them going in different directions. Why? Because both of them are traveling based on map. They may bound to have times when they view the map differently. Visually, in terms of graphic, it looks better too. Some divergence. Not so boring.
She requested this artwork to be scanned into softcopy for her, printed into puzzle and framed the latter up.
Too bad, that I forgot to take a snapshot of it. So, no chance to post it up here.

Caricatures for OCBC

Another super urgent job.
OCBC wanted to present this caricature to this client, who is the distributer for Rolls Royce, Porsche, SAAB, Opel, Mini, BMW (Indonesia) and Mazda (Indonesia).
Give me a good opportunity to further polish my car caricature skill.
You would be surprised that the time I take to draw one car is longer than drawing human caricature. I can draw about 2 to 3 caricatures with that amount of time.
So, you can tell how much time I spent on these 7 cars.
Looked quite good when framed up. Thus I snapped a photo for my record, and as sample for future clients when they need to take a look at the finished product.

Caricature theme - BMW convertible

Quite upset when drawing this caricature.
Not because of the client.
Just that I can't escape the fate of working when everyone is resting or enjoying themselves on this public holiday.... and this is the beginning of a new year! Sigh...... No choice. It is my job.
Think I need better time management.
Anyway, back to the caricature, it is meant for the 25th anninversary gift for this couple. The client who ordered this artwork, requested to have them in a convertible BMW. Metal inscription and frame to be done at a later date, as there isn't enough time for it.
Frame and inscription done on 15th Jan 2008.

Caricature theme - The Simpsons

Same client's order, for her brother's birthday, who loves The Simpsons a lot.

I would usually advise my client to have the original artwork scanned into softcopy, before printing onto other products like puzzles, mousepads, T-shirts, mugs, crystal plaque etc, for the best result. The additional fee for the scanning is worth it. They get to keep the softcopy on cd, in case any damages happened to the original artwork. If they don't have the budget, I would print from the softcopy taken with my camera. The quality of the printed product, of course, can't be compared to those printed using scanned softcopy.

Caricature theme - Liverpool soccer player

The caricatures and puzzle were meant as an anniversary gift from the client to her boy boy.
Thought this jersey was the Manchester United team one. Just Googled it and found out that this was the Liverpool jersey. Luckily the jersey image was provided by the client. No mistake made.
She wanted her boy boy holding the trophy in one hand, while the other hand on her waist. She would be cheering for him. Setting was in a stadium.
She had the caricatures scanned and made into an A4 puzzle. See the quality difference (first on top) in flat bed high resolution scanning and those taken with camera one. The former was so much better.

Caricature theme - love bank

The client wanted this caricature to be used as the graphic to be printed out into a smaller version and stick on their 'Love Bank" (the box below). This "Love Bank" is for them to put their grateful and wishing messages / notes etc.
The setting is their dream car Lamborghini and bungalow.
Temporary stick on the box. Waiting for the client to decide the exact position.

Caricature theme - hammer!

Just found out that this caricatures need to be framed and also to be printed on a pink cushion. Real shock when I saw the cushion order around 11pm+. Quickly sit down and scanned this into soft copy, uploaded to my server, sent an email to place an order with my supplier, collecting tomorrow evening. Luckily, the kind lady (the supplier who did the artwork printing) Kelly rushed it out for me. What I need to do is to collect from her office. Thanks a lot. Usually it takes at least a few days to get it done. Phew!
Think this client must have annoyed the girl. Wanted to use this as a gift for apology. Used to draw this theme often while I was working in Clarke Quay.
My customers like this theme very much, whereby the girl beats the guy flat!
By the way, the above was me and my girlfriend (wife now) draw about 12 years ago, while waiting for business along the corridor in Clarke Quay. It was drawn from the Polaroid photo taken using the camera given to me by my dad. Sigh!.......time really flies...... and my dad passed away nearly 3 years........

first 2 sets of 3d caricature dollies arrived
Just arrived all the way from China to my doorstep.
Phew! One of the clients will be collecting at 12pm tomorrow.
Thought it may be late. Just slipped my mind to check with Adam when they will be sent in.
Not bad looking. Quite close resemblance, especially the first set.

Caricatures for Daimler Chrysler

Can't remember whether this was meant to be a birthday or farewell gift for the family, as this order came in before I left for Italy. Nearly can't delivered this on time, as my stay in Italy was extended because the doctor needed my mum to stay for a few days in Italy before flying back to Singapore. She was not fit for a flight right after discharged.
First time drawing "The Incredibles" theme, few years after the movie was screened.
Some changes gere whereby Violet was replaced by the client's elder son and Jack Jack (the baby) was replaced by a baby girl.

3D caricature dolly
You may have seen these 3D caricature dollies in Singapore, Taiwan, China and even USA.
I had seen these in Bishan Junction 8. Some of my customers told me that they have seen these dollies in Kalm's. Yes, they are now available in Portrait Workshop. They are the products done by Usually Creation. Adam Koh, the boss of the company has been discussing with me on the possibilities of exchanging links on both of our website, for few months. Now, he will be leaving for China in managing the production side with Qminime. These 2 companies have merged. Given that they need some retail shops in Singapore to take orders and for their customers to collect, besides the Wedding Giftshop in Delphi Orchard, Portrait Workshop is the other reseller for them in Singapore. (In fact, he has placed more samples here, making Portrait Workshop the biggest reseller for their company in Singapore. With this additional product, my gallery now looks more like a gift shop. Hahaha...)
Adam told me that he has collected back on the samples in Kalm's Singapore outlets. Prices are still the same as you see on their website. I will have to get familiar with their prices, before the potential customers call up to enquire. Hahaha... head getting big. They have hundreds of ready-made, semi-customized, and fully customized dollies. It will take me some time to do it.
You may wonder why they have chosen Portrait Workshop? These are 3D caricature dollies. I am doing 2D caricatures. In terms of context, they are similar. Now, the customers have more variety to choose from. In fact, I have thought of doing such 3d caricatures 10 years ago. But, I am one-man-show. There's a limit of the quantity I can produce. These dollies production are labour-intensive and time consuming. Unusual Creation and Qminime have more than 50 artists to work on them, to cater to the world market. I have more interest in creating different drawings (3d digital caricatures too) than in the management side. Thus, I shelved the idea.
As these dollies are not done by me, you may expect a different styles in the modeling and sculpturing of the features, as well as the style. According to what Adam told me, they can get 60%-70% resemblance, based on the photo you provide. They have QC (quality control) after the head has been sculptured out, to check on the resemblance.
These are the 3d caricature dolly samples he has brought in this afternoon.
I will need some time to re-size the images and put them up on my website product page later.
All the dollies sitting on my drawing desk in my gallery now.
Of course, they are not here permanently. I will need to hunt for a rack or shelf to display them nicely. Need to do some shopping this weekend.
Soccer theme.

George Bush - Superman theme. Should get popular, since most of my clients like to feature their bosses as Superman.:)

Marilyn Monroe......'s body in caricature form. Of course not the head. Hahaha....

That famous tennis player - but I don't know her name. Hahaha...... Saw her on TV before.

One of the customers.

Soldier on a tank. Should be popular among Singapore Armed Forces.

Tennis player theme. You can change the colour of the shirt and short etc, at a slight extra cost of $10. ( The body and colour are all ready-made, except the head.)

Graduation theme.

Bruce Lee theme.

Another Bruce Lee theme.

Another customer's caricature.

Baby with milk bottle.

Soccer theme - another hot theme, even not within the World Cup period.

Caricature for Joey Yung 容祖儿

A congratulation gift to Joey Yung for her good show in Genting in 2007.
The above was the original artwork.
Below was the edited version using Photoshop, as colour marker can't achieve this smooth effect.
With this edited artwork, it will look better when printed on the T-shirt.
Below was the T-short with caricature printed on it. It wasn't that short. I have folded it when this photo was snapped. The client will frame this T-shirt and present to Joey Yung.
