group caricatures for UBS

A farewell gift for the boss, from the Singapore and Hong Kong teams.

The boss likes mountain climbing.

There are 13 Singapore staff and 20 Hong Kong staffs, 7 VIPs.
Total 41 people, including the boss.
A rather big group after the Philip Morris and Coca Cola jobs.

Given the big numbers, I have to draw them on an A1 size (59.4x84cm) paper.
Huge one, and I have to join two A2 size paper together.


The background is the Singapore and Hong Kong skylines/landmarks.



I separated the teams into red (for Singapore team), blue (for Hong Kong team) and orange (for VIPs), for easy identification at one glance.

This job was done in conjunction with the Pico Art job. I started the pencil sketch and inking while waiting for the photos of the latter to come in. Colouring was done after the Pico Art job was completed.
Just need to clear all the jobs before my Chinese New Year holiday.

The client gave me a ring:-
"Very nice. My boss (the subject) likes it a lot!"

Caricatures for Pico Art International & The 9th Dealer Conference of Volkswagen Import (China) Co., Ltd.

A very challenging job.
The client (Pico Art) wanted to have the caricatures of the delegates who are attending The 9th Dealer Conference of Volkswagen Import (China) Co., Ltd.
The delegates (about 250) will arrive on 27th Jan 2011, and their photos will be taken, and I am given one day - 28th Jan 2011 to do up all the caricatures. The client will collect them on 29th Jan 2011 and get them framed up for the delegates..

It is nearly impossible for me to complete 250 caricatures in one day, unless I don't sleep, and draw non-stop for 24 hours.:D

I have to get help from my caricaturist friends - Reggie, Kamal and Ruoshi.
The client agreed and understand that each of us has different styles.

Reggie helped me out on 50 caricatures.


Kamal and Ruoshi took care of 80 caricatures.

And I took up the rest of the 109 caricatures.

In fact, the client is still sending me photos on 29th and 30th Jan 2011, and I have to complete them within a few hours, before the delegates leave the town.

This is quite a record for me, as it has the most caricaturists working on a single studio job, in a very short timing. Overall, I am satisfied with the outcome.

Singapore Skyline backdrop digital illustration for Pico Art & Volkswagen

This was the mock-up the client sent me, based on my template illustrations for the caricatures.

The client prefers the above skyline illustration, since the venue of the Volkswagen event

The 9th Dealer Conference of Volkswagen Import (China) Co., Ltd.)
will be held at Marina Bay Sands (MBS).
However, they wanted to include the Merlion (see below)

The backdrop is 6 meters by 3 meters.
The client initially requested to blow the caricature template, which was only 20cm in width.
The lines will look awful if it is blown up 20 times.
I have to illustrate it in vector file format.
The resolution would not be compromised, in this case.

I realized that there is a huge difference between illustrating a small size (like 50 cm) vs a 5 meters, on a 12' Cintiq. The line could appear straight when zoom out, but looks really crooked when zoom in at actual size. Thank goodness that I started with the canvas at the largest size possible in Macromedia Freehand of 5 meters in width. If not, I will have to re-drawn the whole illustration.

Unfortunately, I have left too much space on the top part. Once the car is place in front of the backdrop. most of the skylines were blocked.

Thus, I have to pull them up, by enlarging and reshuffling the landmarks.
This took quite a long time, as I have to add in the white background for some of the landmarks like MBS. Thus, when the Changi Airport Control Tower was placed behind it, the MBS won't look transparent.

Caricature for Procter & Gamble (P&G)

Client's brief:-
"Hi Jit, 
 Checked with my VP. We will only want Radi in the picture in a bathtub using Venus to shave his legs and holding a bottle of SK-II (please use the SK-II Miracle Water). Radi in his thought where the money bag overflowing with money and a window frame on the opposite side with backgrounds of Singapore - Merlion, Esplanade, etc."

Client's brief:-
"Hi, I'd like to order a caricature in colour marker with theme - with background & body, 
This gentleman is into karaoke and golf so something with him in that context will be great.... prefer him in karaoke setting then a golf one if u had to choose just one - good if you can incorporate both."
 
I realized that I have drawn this gentleman last week!:D
Same as the jobs for HSBC about 3 years ago!

One more art theft!

Second case this month. Thanks Cherisse - one of my Facebook Page Fans, who happened to bumped into thsi site and informed me.
Another art theft - by the name of this lady chelove18.
Interestingly, she used the same caricature done by me as what "karikatyurteez" used on his site (or are they the same person? Looks like it!), to get business for herself.

She used my image and masked over my signature with her url.


Another one stolen from my site!

I have demanded her to take them down immediately.
At the time of post, she has removed them, without any apology! As expected from a thief, since they do it secretly, when they remove the stolen artworks, they will do it silently too!

Caricature live sketching for Norden Shipping Annual Dinner

An hour gig, 6:30pm - 7:30pm, but the client extended another 30 minutes due to popular demand, till 8pm.
Venue is Novus Restaurant & Bar at National Museum of Singapore.

The client requested for 3 caricaturists for their company annual dinner.

I engaged Kamal and his wife, Ruoshi's service, to meet their requirement.
