Client's brief:-
"I would like to have a caricature of 4 ladies for a farewell present for my boss and therefore I would like to check with you on a few things before we proceed with the ordering.
We would need a Caricature in pencil with the 4 of us in a group. We would like it to be something cute for his memories therefore we chose the caricature. I have attached a photo of us for your reference....
We would like to have a headline of "Babes in Ashurst" and can we also have our names under our Caricature?"
Email from the client:-
"Hi Jit,
I have received the caricature. It is very nicely done and we were very satisfied with your work.
Thanks so much again and there will definitely get in touch with you soon for future work.
Jamie"

Caricature theme - Indian wedding
Client's brief:-
"I am getting married in June, and would like a caricature drawn of me and my husband which I can use on a Thank You card to send out to guests. ....I am impressed with your work, and looking at the website...As I am based in the UK, would it be suitable to email you images from the wedding once photos have been taken?....Brief for caricature
Bride & Groom
- Bride and groom in wedding outfits, as in photographs (as accurate as you can!)
- Groom to have gold Indian wedding shoes on (photo attached) instead of bare feet.
- Bride to have gold sandals on (photo attached) – if feet are showing in drawing. Hot pink nailpolish if hands are detailed, not sure if this shows in photos…
- Bride and groom facing forwards, groom holding bride in his arms (pose like the caricature you did for Chinese traditional wedding on your blog, 27th April 2009)
Background:
- If it looks good, if you can try to do the ceiling as dark blue with white twinkle lights (similar to starry night) – as this was in our wedding hall.
- Red, gold and orange draping in background as you see fit.
- Indian wedding elephant (similar to photo I emailed you) standing in background, can be cartoon style with a happy face!
- Chocolate cake in background similar to photo I emailed (3 tier orange colour with chocolate elephants)
- Table with a chocolate fountain with fruit tree next to it (photo attached), and if possible, a small ganesh statue on table (like photo attached)."
An order from United Kingdom.
I just found out that this client made her initial enquiry in Jan this year, and subsequently decided to place her order in July. Wow! 6 months!
As you can see from the above artwork, the most challenging part was the wedding gown and accessories. I took a long time, painstakingly to bring out the details in a more simplified way, and yet still a lot of effort was put in.
However, the feedback from the client was rewarding:-
"Hi Jit,
Thank you for the excellent caricature and the wonderful service you offer! This will be lovely for the thank you cards I wish to post out to my guests. You have drawn it so well based on my instructions. I am very glad I came across your details on the internet. I have been very pleased with your professionalism and constant contact regarding my requirements.
I wish you all the best with your career - and if I ever need a similar drawing doing, I will definitely contact you again!
Many thanks,
Divya"

Lady portrait in colourpencil
Last piece of this client's order.
Usually, portrait in colourpencil takes me a while to complete.
Surprisingly, this was a smooth and easy job, done efficiently. And I like the outcome.
Client's response:-
"哇,好像哦!"
Caricature theme - Manchester Utd fans' wedding on plane
Client's brief:-
"Hi Jit,
My very good friend is getting married and I would like a caricature of her and her husband on an airplane. This would be printed on an envelope that would contain her wedding favour. (a glider)
Plane to be on the left hand side of the picture with a banner trailing behind that reads "Thanks for being part of our journey!" (without the apostrophes) Their wedding logo (Pic 1) would be at the back of the plane. The plane can be of any design – see sample picture of plane on envelope (Pic 2)
Both are Man Utd (must be spelt as Utd and not U) fans and both are to be wearing Man Utd jerseys (no particular design/ jersey number needed)
The bride would have a veil (flying in the wind) and would be holding a bouquet of colourful flowers (deep, rich and contrasting colours) (photos attached for colour reference – pic 3 n 4). Her hair is long and tied – any style, except in a bun (refer to pic 5).
Groom would be holding a soccer ball. (or maybe spinning the ball, whichever looks better)
Background – Maybe clouds? And some patches of brown n blue to represent the seas and continents they are traveling over.
Attached are some pictures of the bride and the groom. : )
Going for the scanned copy n the soft copy..."
I think it is better to have them sitting on the plane, than popping out of the windows.
Somehow, it really looks wierd and very distorted to me.
Visually not nice, even though for a caricature.
Client's feedback upon seeing this artwork:-
"Wow, that's nice!"

Caricature montage of Viggo
Client's brief:-
"Hi;
I have attached the sketch I sent you for the one you did for me last year. Unfortunately I can’t find a copy of the original finished product.....
I have gone through the whole concept and I think I have it as I want it. Please find the basic concept with 4 attachments as part of this mail. I have labeled all the scenes from I to IX as I am commenting on each scene below. I have also put numbers next to where I want you to look at the attachment for ‘inspiration’. Obviously the numbers I to IX and 1 to 15 shall not be in on the finished product.
See my comments below.
Scene I:
My brother runs a football academy for kids 10-15 years old. This is meant to show him giving a theory lesson at the academy to the kids. He is teaching the boys tactics. Attachment 1 is the logo for the academy which I want in the drawing. Attachment 2 are samples of the cola my brothers always drinks and I want him seen holding a bottle of TaB while talking.
Scene II:
My brother and his wife often go hiking in the mountain. I want them to be seen in the mountain with back packs on (like the one in attachment G). They recently climbed the mountain in attachment 3 and if you can fit that in it is fine, if not, any mountain will do.
Scene III:
My brother has 3 kids, 2 boys and 1 girl. They used to go on all sorts of sporting holidays in their blue Volkswagen Caravelle (see attachment 4 for sample but colour should be blue). My brother and his wife in front, the three kids in the back. The kids don’t need faces as long as they look like kids with blond hair. I want skis, ski poles, snow boards, footballs and hand balls (same as football only smaller) sticking out of the car (as it did from my boss’ Volvo last year). I want bicycles to be hanging from the back of the car.
Scene IV:
This is supposed to show my father (shirt number 9 with name TÆTT on the back), VIGGO (shirt number 6) and GUNNAR (shirt number 10) standing in a Copthorne Hotel bar (attachment 5) drinking Guiness (attachment 6). The 2 boys (THOMAS with number 4 on the back) and CHRIS with number 7 on the back) are not allowed in to the bar and must stand outside. I leave it to you how to draw this. No faces needed in this scene.
Scene V:
This is the main feature and shows my brother playing football. He is wearing his team’s black and yellow striped shirt with black shorts and yellow socks (attachment 11). Note that there should be a Diadora logo (attachment 7), a club emblem (attachment 8) and two sponsor logos (attachment 9 and 10) on the shirt.
Scene VI:
Here my brother is stealing strawberry jam in my mother’s basement store room. There are two small windows above his head and he was caught when my aunt spotted him from across the street. I have tried to draw some jam glasses and a couple of potato sacks. Strawberry Is JORDBÆR and potato is POTET in Norwegian.
Scene VII:
My brother was central in having this indoor football field made. The idea is to show a man (no face needed) standing in a ladder hammering away to finish this thing. The stadium is called SEAWORKS-HALLEN and there is also a club emblem (attachment 8) on the wall. The building is pictured in attachment 12. Next to the ladder I want included four cans of TaB (as in attachment 2).
Scene VIII:
When in school my brother was very lazy. This is meant to show his school bag with all the books – and home work in it standing outside the entrance door. He could normally not be bothered with bringing it in before he went playing football.
Scene IX:
In his youth my brother served in the UN peace keeping forces in Lebanon. I just want this to be in but no face needed here, a soldier with the hat as in attachment 13 will do and the two flags as in attachment 14 (Lebanon) and 15 (UN).
Attachment A to I are pictures of my brother. In attachment G, H and I you can also see his wife who I would want to be in scene II and III – if possible. You have to judge if you can make the face big enough for her to be seen clearly.
As for the allocation of space I leave that to you but scenes VI, VIII and IX can be done smaller than the rest.
As you can see it is quite a big job but I was very impressed last year so I want to have a go at it again.....
Please find attached a few more photos of my brother. These are from when he was younger. He was 23 in the top one, 19 in the one on the right side below and 14 in the left below. I have found nothing from when he was younger than this, but I think he was around 14-15 when he stole the jam from the food cellar.
I have also realized that I have missed out on one major incident in my basic sketch. If you think it is possible I would like to add one scene. When he was 26 he broke his leg bone pretty badly in a football match. They operated a metal plate on to the leg with 9 bolts. He managed to break this plate by falling over (rumor has it it happened while dancing on a table…) They then had to operate in an even bigger metal piece (36 cm!). He came back on the football field playing with this latter piece in his leg. The attached newspaper article is from this incident. I was hoping that you could draw him dancing on a table in a disco with his crutches over his head. Let me know if you think there will be room enough for an additional scene in the drawing...."
Understanding the brief took me a long time.
The client gave me a long time, which also stressed me a lot.
I know I have this 'big' project which I need to complete.
It was left in my schedule tray, until 3-4 weeks before the due date, I took it out and started working on it.
One problem with this job was that the client has limited numbers of photos of the subject at his young age. Most of the photos provided are quite current. Therefore, you will notice that he looks rather old in some of the scene, whereby he is supposed to look young.
The inking tool is all done in G-pen. The details are just too small for the brush to come into this process.
Come to the colouring stage, usually it shouldn't take up so much of my time.
This one is an exception. Perhaps due to the amount of tiny details.
Did I draw in too much little stuff? :D
No joke, it took me 2 weeks+ to complete this job, but on and off.
Quite a torture to me, psychologically. I seldom spend so much time on 1 job.
One big problem here - I missed out this attachment in the client's email.
He has everything planned out, as previous job.
The feedback from him is that I did not follow what he has requested.
As such, the overall impression of the subject's favourite - soccer, was not shown in this drawing.
The lucky part was that my layout was more or less conincides with what he has drafted out.
No choice. Since it was my mistake, I have to make the necessary amendments.
I scanned this A2 artwork into digital copy, redraw the door and scholbag scene, rearranged the scenarios, shrunk some of them down, and made the soccer theme in the centre of the artwork. Added in the subject's name and age.
Next is to send this for printing into A2 hardcopy.
Upon seeing this revised artworked, the client said:-
"Very good! Fantastic! This is exactly what I want!"

Caricature theme - Angel by the pond
Client's brief:-
"Hi Jit,
I want to have my wife caricature for my next tattoo
The caricatures at your website are very convincing and I believe that you can sketch my wife face exactly as it is, otherwise she'll angry because she see another girl at my tattoo, he.. he.. joking
Here the details:
- Use the body and pose of the page 1 for your guidance, you can modify it if necessary
- Page 2 - 4 are wife, just choose which one will suit to the body and pose at page 1
- I don't like the wing at page 1, can you change the wing to more angelic wing with more feathers
- Delete the ring above the head
- I'd like to see her sitting near a pond / lake with koi fish swimming near her and the puppy standing near her or may sitting with the head on her thigh
- The rest is up to you but since this is for tattoo, I think you can't put too many object for the background
- I want to have color tattoo, so please use color for the caricature..."
An order from Indonesia.
This is not my first time doing artowrk for tattoo, but it is the first time I draw it in caricature form. Wonder how the tattoo artist is going to transform it into a tattoo.
Email from the client:-
"Hi, it's excellent!!
I'll pickup th original and the A3 scan when I go to Singapore
Thanks

Caricature theme - tennis player
Client's brief:-
"hi,
i love your caricature works and would love to have you draw one for me(:
i would like to present a caricature of my dad for fathers' day
he loves sports so i was thinking of him holding a tennis racket
oh, can you draw him like flexing his muscles after making a shot?
i've attached some pictures of him
he also has this habit of placing his specs above his head
could you include that too?
yup, that's about it. black and white in ink is fine with me
dont really need a background i think..."
Challenge here is that the (only) photo provided of the subject, has glasses put on.
One way to make sure the resemblance is there, after I 'remove' the glasses from the caricature, is to sketch him with glasses on.
Though I have made sure that the pencil sketch looks like him before I ink in (without the glasses), it still looks quite wierd to me when this caricature is done.
However, the client still likes it, meaning looks like his dad?:D
This client has a live caricature sketched by me at Costa Sands Resort last month.
She is the 13th client in that event.

Caricature theme - golfer
Client's brief:-
"This is Yani previously i ask you to draw cariculture for my european boss , I need you to do cariculture drawing for my collegue , can you remove the wringkle, and adjust the teeth too. at least make her look younger .without back ground will be fine...."
.
A female golfer, which I seldom draw.
When the subject has comical features, the outcome usually won't go very bad.
In this case, everything comes out quite well. At least, I like it.
Client's response:-
"Hahaha! Thank you very much!"

Caricature theme - wedding
Client's brief:-
"Saw your ads recently, and I would like you to draw a caricature of me and my wife in Chinese Wedding costume for our wedding.
I would like our caricature to be in colour marker with theme (with background & body)....
...We would like our theme to be western wedding."
Not my ad, but a write-up on me by The Straits Times and The New Paper.
These write-up indeed bring in some equiries for about 1-2 weeks, and then dies off.
What is bringing me consistant business is my website and blog.
Thank goodness they changed to Western wedding theme.
If not, I will have to draw the 'qua' again. :D
(The latter is a more difficult job, as compared to this)
"Saw your ads recently, and I would like you to draw a caricature of me and my wife in Chinese Wedding costume for our wedding.
I would like our caricature to be in colour marker with theme (with background & body)....
...We would like our theme to be western wedding."
Not my ad, but a write-up on me by The Straits Times and The New Paper.

Lady portrait in pencil
Caricature theme - nature walk
Client's brief:-
"I'll like to do a caricature for 2 persons in colour marker with theme. I do not have any theme in mind yet. The idea is to have something cute and colourful for the house. Do you have pre-defined themes to suggest, or should i decide on something before coming to you?....
Can you draw 2 persons with 2 imaginery puppies?.....
We love travelling, red wine and doggies. We do hot yoga every weekend. Sometimes we go for walks at Bukit Timah Hill and MacRitchie Reservoir too. We also like watersports and the beach...."
I chose the nature walk theme. Somehow, before I draw, I can picture that should looking loving and cute, especially with the 2 imaginery puppies.

Caricature theme - couple in BMW 650i
This client rang me up, said wanted to pass me photos.
He said he has drawings done by me few years ago. (in Orchard or China Square? I can't remember)
He ordered 2 caricatures in colour with theme, and 1 portrait in colour pencil.
His brief for this caricature is to have him and her girlfriend in a sports car, as a third anniversary gift for the latter.
I chose a BMW 650i. Why? Nothing specific, but it looks good on my iPhone, when I googled it online.:D Unfortunately, I don't have that type of gray colour in my colour markers collection. Added in some pastel white to smoothen the colours out, and lighten the colours. NOt very ideal, though, in terms of colour.
Caricaturists in Singapore
This lady, Irene, sent me an email, request for my consent of using my artworks on her recent post - (Caricaturists in Singapore) on her blog. I agreed, since there's a link back to my website and blog. A form of free advertisement too.
To my surprise, she managed to get so many caricaturists in Singapore, more than 2 times what I know of. Wow! I am living in my own world. What a shame! :D
By the way, she draws caricatures too, and she has some interesting works on her blog. You may wanna take a look.

Caricature for Bintan Resort Ferries
Client's brief:-
"We have decided to do the fllwg as our farewell gift to our General Manager:
Caricature of our ferry as theme in colours in A2 size.
(pls refer attached image of BRF ferry & picture of Mr Frank Singam, the Indian guy with moustache)...."
This artwork comes out better than my expectation, in terms of execution and composition.
At my first glance at the photo of the subject, I know that I will enjoy drawing his face.
The face is the soul of the drawing.
When it turns out good, the rest will follow smothly an dnicely.
This frame blends in quite well with the caricature artwork.
Posted up here, in case other clients need some ideas when it comes to picking their frames.

Caricature theme - wedding on airplane
Client's brief:-
"We would like to have a caricature wedding card and after a detailed search on the net I have found your web-page. We live in the Netherlands and we just want to have the sketch in digital format (JPG, TIF, whatever you use)...
About the theme, we want to have a theme as we were in a plane with our wedding dresses and at the back of the plane there appears a note in Turkish saying we are going to marry. I tried to prepare an example (theme would be something like this but including us in the plane), and attached this example image also....
It is a usual, known wedding dress for the bride and I am going to wear a usual groom suit. I have attached a photo of a common turkish couple in their wedding dresses (of course these are not us :)). And by the way, could you also draw the veil for the bride? "
If my memory doesn't fail me, this could be the first time I drew such airplane, and wedding couple in such airplane. Looks good. The bride lsent me quite a number of photos. I chose this photo as reference for the caricature, as she looks pretty good in it.
To my surprise, Turkish wedding gown and suit are just similar to those Western type.
I thought it is something very different before I opened up the attachment.
And now I know this Turkish word 'Evleniyoruz' is 'going to marry' in English, though I don't know how to pronounce it.:D
Email from the client:-
"Hi Jit,
Thanks for your great work. We both liked them a lot. Above address is also ok.
Thanks again. "

Caricatures for Maris Stella High School
A walk-in customer. Pressed my doorbell.
I was shocked cum surprised, as most of my clients place their orders via email, or at least ring me up to enquire.
He just pop-by. What if I am not in?
Of course, I was in at that time.
Some caricature gifts for the 35th student council.
These caricatures were drawn at different laces of my house.
Different mood. Some variation in styles, which you may not see this slight difference.
These above caricatures were done in my living room.
This one on my bed.
This one too. My wife and kids were asleep. I am getting into my real drawing mood.
Reminded me of those days when I was exploring different techniques in my little room (I slept in store room of 2m x 2.5m) That was in 1990-1991. Little room, but I was enjoying myself.
My lines are running a bit wild, as compared to my usual style.
More sculptural.
I like the folds of this shirt. :D
I drew these 2 caricatures in my study room.

Caricature theme - proposal
Client's brief:-
"Theme: Proposal gift.
I wish to be drawn on one bended knee holding a diamond ring proposing to my girlfriend.
Background: Disney castle with disney characters cheering (please include Chip & Dale) and fireworks(night)"
Colour marker can't do a good job in drawing fireworks. I have used pastel pencils to create it. Not ideal too.
Thus, we scrapped this idea. Gave them a starry night instead.
This baggy jeans and posture looks quite quite and good for her, I think. Something different from my usual drawing for 'proposing caricatures'.
