Caricature theme - traditional Japanese wedding
Client's brief:-
"Hi Jit,
Great work posted on your site. We are really looking forward to getting our wedding's welcome board sketch done by you.
My wife and I really like the picture of a live sketching piece you did which I have attached in the email. We really like how soft and kind the art piece looks and would like to know is that a caricature or portrait and was it done by markers, ink, or...?....
The requirements will be:
- Our faces as attached in the close up picture minus my pimple pls hahah
- Full body with the traditional japanese wedding kimono's (Stated as groom's and bride's kimono design) as attached in the picture. I have included our full body picture stated as Full body reference for your reference but pls note that, that attire is not the wedding kimono design.
As for the background:
- We would like to be drawn standing on the squarish platform which is over calm water with the extended walkway that leads to the left as highlighted on the bottom of the attached "TOGO garden" picture to connect to the rear part of the drawing of the shrine as seen on the attached "Shrine" picture.
- We would also like the bigger highlighted sakura blossom (as seen in "TOGO garden" picture) to be drawn above our heads with these words on it which has to be big enough to be read for our wedding reception board. The words are, " Welcome to our Wedding.
Jay & Yuko.
8th April 2010."
- Lastly, as our board as flowers on the top left and bottom right, please arrange for us to be drawn on the right side with the shrine on the left as we think that should give the best orientation. But please give us your feedback and suggestions as you are the professional.....
Thanks for the input! and we are totally ok with doing it in portrait format, any further professional advice is totally welcomed.
Will we have to forgo the sakura drawing even in portrait format or will there be enough space? The words can be written over the sakura if there isn't enough space or do you have any alternative suggestions as to how we can add in the sakura and words?
I have attached scanned images for the TOGO garden however they are in 2 pieces, hope that's ok. And I could only get a picture of the shrine in the day without the red carpet, hope you could draw the shrine in the day with the red carpet.
Lastly, it seems like the picture frame of 400mm X 300mm includes the border of the frame. Can the drawings be done in such a way that it doesn't get blocked by the flowers on the edges as well please.
Thanks a million for listening to our endless requests."
The kimonos were the most time-consuming, especially the bride's one.
You can tell from the textile pattern.
However, the feedback was rewarding:-
"Oh, Very nice!... beautiful! It's going to be a very good memory for us!"
:)))))

Caricature for Ministry of Manpower (MOM) - 23
In fact, this was the first individual order placed by this client, way before the bulk of 22 caricature order was placed, but collecting later. So let me finish it off.

Though I know I have done 23 caricatures for them, it is still a 'wow' when I laid them out.
Client's feedback:-
"Hi Jit, I just saw the caricatures and they are great! :) Really look like the real person..."

Caricature for Ministry of Manpower (MOM) - 22
The moment this pencil sketch is done, I knew this one going to be a funny one.
Look at his expression. You need people with comical features and/or smiles to give you comical caricature.
I love this!:))))
Last piece of this bulk order from Ministry of Manpower.
But this is not the end yet.......

Caricature for DBS
Client's brief:-
"The theme is to draw her like a queen on the throne with wine bottles strewn around and her looking a bit tipsy.
She’s still looking classy holding a cocktail or champagn glass. "
Juggling with the orders. 3 urgent orders came in yesterday.
This one due today.
Searching through my posts, I realised I have done a couple of queen caricatures. I thought I have only drawn some king caricatures.
Drawing process here.
Client's response upon seeing this:-
"Oh, this is very nice!"

Caricature theme - walking the dog
Client's brief:-
"As inquired today, please find the picture of our friend attached. It will be our send-off gift for her.
Would appreciate if you can include her dog Keiko in the caricature (see also attached pictures).
So it should be like owner and pet picture....
Steph (woman) would still be the highlight of the picture. It's just to give you an idea what the dog look like when you draw Steph walking the dog."
This is the caricature version of Miss Clarity illustrations.:)

Saw my artwork on Facebook!!
Happened to see this photo on my Facebook home page.
One of my clients - Razhia Bee Bte Gausmiah post up some of her wedding photos few years back. I was quite excited when I saw it. She agreed to let me post it here.
Something different.
Most of the time, I see my artworks either on my drawing desk, or framed up, but not at client's wedding reception.
This caricature was done about 3 years ago.

Facebook Fan Page
I have just setup a Fan Page (Caricature) on Facebook.
I am thinking to put in some contents which are different from this blog.
More like behind the scene.
You can see how my drawings are done.
From sketch to colouring.
And what I am drawing currently. Maybe not all drawings. Too tedious.
(Cannot afford so much time.)
Snapshots are raw. Videos are raw.
More contents coming up. I will need some time to build it up.
If you are interested to follow, please click "Become a Fan" button in the Facebook badge, on the right column.
See you there! :)

Caricature for Ministry of Manpower (MOM) - 1
In 2007, Ministry of Manpower commissioned me to illustrate some caricatures for their standlee. Now, they came back for more, but different faces. Total is 22 individual caricatures. About 7 of them are these directors standing on the "Great MOMers, Great MOM" platforms, with a board (where they will stick on the message on the standlee) in their hands.

baby caricature in pencil
Caricature theme - Farewell to Chocolate industry
Client's brief:-
"Hi Jit,
I love your work and hope you can complete this caricature for one of our colleagues who is leaving us after nearly 2 years with the company. This will be a farewell gift to her…I am looking at a coloured caricature with theme like the one you did here… http://www.caricature.com.sg/2010/03/caricature-theme-riding-down-hill.html
The backdrop should have a blue sky with her driving a car. She is currently dabbling in photography and she should be holding an SLR camera in the caricature with some nice scenery outside the car. She has a dog which looks really like a pig with its pink and big nose (please see attached photo), This dog (with emphasis on the pink nose) can be in the back passenger seat with looking really happy out of the window. Finally, the car should be filled with chocolates such as Toblerone, M&M's, Hershey's etc... since we are in the chocolate trade…you can maybe show them bursting out of the car boot or some falling out of the car…leaving a trail of chocs behind…well after all, she is leaving the choc industry at least for now!..."

Client's requests:-
"Requirements:
Caricature, I do not need it to be in colour. But I want it in black and white (similar to what you have drawn for the Biotherm event).
Size: A4 size please.
$$ Price: Since I want it in black and white, how much will it be then?
Collection date: 3-4 weeks time is fine. No rush. Once the caricature is ready, inform me, and I will collect it......
• Theme: Sexy, kinky kind of photos, something like a bachelor / bachelorette kind of result.
• They are getting married this year and so to have this caricature as a memo for them for their last bachelor/bachelorette life.
• Need you to draw 2 person in 1pc of A4 paper. Full body drawn.
• The attached you made is using ink, is it? Try make the picture to be funny. E.g, man with underwear / lady with lingerie with nice cleavage (just to ur imagination to make it look good ) I leave it to u to make it nice.
Add words at bottom on right hand side (in two lines): First line: Lin & Faizal / Second line: February 2010
Positioning of the caricature photo: FaizaL will be on the left. Lin will be on the right.
Please draw the caricature in VERTICAL position."
Changed the position of the subjects and text, upon approval of the client.
The angle this lady faced - she can only be on the left, for this caricature to look good.
Changed the date upon client's request.
I like the guy's posture.:D
"Caricature, I do not need it to be in colour. But I want it in black and white (similar to what you have drawn for the Biotherm event).
Size: A4 size please.
$$ Price: $60
Collection date: 3-4 weeks time is fine. No rush. Once the caricature is ready, inform me, and I will collect it.
Add a nice WORD ART at the top of the fairy/Nadia's head, align centre. Font size 25 to 30. Depending on the size of the caricature drawn. Put the name : NADIA.
Theme: This is for a birthday lady. She is also going to be a mother soon. Therefore, possible to have the caricature done like :
- A fairy with wings / an angel with wings. The position of the body is slightly sided. ALso, can try to include her buldging tummy which shows that the fairy / angel is having a baby... make it look she's pregnant since she is pregnant. Her picture is the one with the name Nadia. I also attached the original photo, just in case u nid it.
Add words at bottom on right hand side 2nd line : Happy Birthday February Baby
Add words at bottom on right hand side 3rd line (If the words too long, you can adjust. I trust your judgement): From your colleagues of the Logistics, Steel Stock Department, Keppel FELS Limited 2010.
Positioning of the caricature photo: Centre of paper
Please draw the caricature in VERTICAL position, the position of the body, try to make it something like the attached picture 'fairy sample body position_blue fairy with black hair' - the fairy in blue. Make the body position, facing NOT too much on the right side, slightly slant it to the left a bit so can see the shape of the pregnant belly. Add a pregnant belly to it. (i am not sure if you understand what i need). Try to make the picture look as fresh and delighting as posible. To my opinion, as long as her face you drawn still looks like her, i am totally fine with the rest of it.
My preferred mode of payment: ATM transfer.
I do not need any lamination or any frame. Thank you."

Couple portraits in pencil
Crazy Cups
Bought the Crazy Cups for my kids.
They saw the Singapore Media Corp Artistes put up a performance at the Ren Ci Charity Show, live on Channel 8 on 24th January 2010.
They were so amazed till they used those plastic cups for parties, found in the cupboard, and practice.
Told them the weight and material are different. You can't do a good job without the right stuff.
When I did this illustration for this client few years ago, it never occur to me that people can get so crazy with these cups.
Looking at the final product, looks like they have changed the colours on their side.
Caricature live sketching for M Hotel Singapore
An hour event (1pm - 2pm) at M Hotel.
M Hotel will have a theme for their hotel every quarter.
This quarte's theme is Superhero.
Thus, I will need to draw in some Superhero therme, upon guests' request.
Superman and Batman in this restaurant?!
First guest - this little boy loves Spiderman. Let's have a Spiderboy caricature.
Not very sure of the Spiderman outfit.
Too slow if I search for the image from my iPhone.
So, just imagine.
He wanted a Superman theme.
No specific request for this little girl.
So are the rest. Thus, I can speed up, and focus on the faces.
The few guests above happened to be celebrating for this birthday 'boy' above.
As such, they were entitled to get their caricatures done for free by me.
This gentleman is in photography business.
We have a short but good chat with his nephew (who's in charge of his business) on my lens problem. Thank you.:)
