Caricature live sketching for Marina Square - Day 2

Today was a four hour event - 3pm - 5pm and 6pm - 8pm.
This should be my last event for 2008.

Maybe Wilfred thinks that I was too bored in last Saturday event at Marina Square, he brought his kids here way before my event. He said cthey ame here to 捧场. Hahaha...

The management put a signage (free caricature etc) at the front of the Activity Corner today.
But, I think the non-stop flow of the people was due to the start-rolling of the ball by Wilfred's kids. Right after I started sketching them, these people started to crowd around.
The queue list was filled up quickly.
I literally drawing non-stop for these 4 hours, excluding the 1 hour break in between.

These were the photos taken by Wilfred, using his handphone.

I took them from his blog.

You can see his post here .

Told him his Youtube video title will get me 'shot' by people.

Now, it was changed, but became his blog post title.
You can ignore that.

His 2 rascals (Justin and Jaslynn), which he always called them. Hahaha.....
Justin holding a gun, and Jaslynn holding a bouquet of flowers..... with a bomb beneath, as requested by her parents. Must be always quarelling with her brother.

Then he went around snapping photos using my Nikon D80.

Saw the 2 signages prepared by the management, on the columns?

Oh, the managemenr lady was behind me. No worries. She's a nice person.
(You may not be able to tell which one was her?)
And I was working hard too. Hahaha....

He was not frowning:)))
That's the way his eyebrows looked like.

Wilfred came back and snapped somemore photos for me, after her wife wondered off with the 2 kids.

He told me that this kid looked cute.

Video taken with his handphone.
He emailed me which I uploaded it to Youtube.
Not very sharp, but better than nothing.
You seldom see my live sketching videos on my blog, as I usually attend events alone.

He likes cars, as what his mum told me.
Drew him playing with a cartoon car.
Looked quite good to me.

Too many people in the queue. I cut down on the theme of each drawing.

This is Wilfred.
His wife Jacqueline disappeared. Camera shy. No choice.
Problem of knowing your friend for 22 years.
Never looked at his features closely. My impression of him and his actiual features of him differs. I can't find out the reason at the time when I was sketching him.
Looking at the photo now, I can see that his nose needs to be bigger and rounder, face longer.
That should capture his essence better.
His wife thinks that her mouth was too big. Her eyes were big too ma. Why never complain? Hahaha....

By the way, I have drawn their caricatures about 11 -12 years ago, when Wilfred was in United States. He asked me to deliver the framed artwork to his girlfriend (at that time), if I remembered correctly.
This drawing is still hanging in their house.
Looking at it again, that drawing looks pretty 'bad' now.
My drawing techniques looked quite raw.
Maybe 12 years later, I think all these drawings done currently, also very bad.

That should be a good thing for an artist.
At least, I have improved over the years.
Just like the drawings I put up on my website.
Some of them were done many years back.
Compare them with those drawings (which are more recent) on this blog, you should be able to tell the difference.

This was quite close, I think.

This family was from Kuala Lumpur.
They will be going back after their drawings were done.
Nice to see people from my country.

Last one, before the break.

These 2 younger sisters were not so lucky.
They waited another hour more to get their caricatures drawn.
My camera was accidentally switched to manual focus, and I didn't realise it.
The drawing was out of focus.
Was looking at the subject when I snapped.
Subsequent photos look blur.
I thought I drew too much till my vision turned out of focus.Caricature live sketching for Marina Square Day 2 - 13
I used the manual focus ring and now it backed in focus.
Still thinking must be something wrong with my lens already.
I only realised it after a few drawings were done.

Good girl.
Holding her smile through out the whole sketching process.

She looks like (especially the pointed eyes) a daughter of one of my friends who used to work in Clarke Quay.

Very active before her turn.
Grouchy when it was her turn.
Smiling when I snapping her photo.

He was shocked when he saw that I drew his mouth so big and lips so thick, but his mum was giggling away.

This couple was watching enthusiastically and waiting patiently for their turn.
I can feel it.
They even requested to snapped a photo with me with tehir caricatures.
Looked like tourists to me.
Reminded me of those days when I was drawing in Clarke Quay and busking in Orchard Road.I drew tourists almost everyday, until I moved to China Square. Now, I work from my home office. The only time I draw foreigners was when I have oversea orders via emails.

Saw the 2 kids in the background?
My wife brought them here, to give me a surprise.
Before that, my instinct told me that they might come.:)))

Last one, and job done.

Hard work for the day. Time to get some nice food.
Brought my wife and kids to the Hokkaido restaurant on Level 1 for dinner, and I have to say - their Ramen was fantastic, though not cheap. Very close to the Ramen in Japan, which I have eaten 4 years ago.
Jiale and Jiaxi have their Hokkaido ice cream (green tea and milk tea flavours - their favourites)after waiting anxiously for us to finish our dinner.
