Caricature live sketching for West Coast Plaza - Day 1

This was a 2 day event, 1pm - 7pm, at West Coast Plaza.
15 minutes break for every 45 minutes.
Half way through the event then I realised that I have under-quoted this event by 3 hours.
How can I make such a mistake?!
I keep scolding myself for my carelessness.
My wife told me that if I quoted him the exact price, I may not get the job.
True also..... sigh..... anyway, it was over.
And contract was already signed. No way to argue too, and not professional
(No wonder when I quoted my price, the event company sent me the contract in a short time)

Back to the event, West Coast Plaza was formerly known as Ginza Plaza, which me and my wife (girlfriend at that time) used to patronise while schooling in NUS, 14-16 years ago. And our favourite place is the arcade WyWy Wonder Space, and our favourite machine is the Western Dream. That was a money-sucking machine, and yet we are so addicted to it.

After graduation, we seldom come here again, or in fact never, if I remeber correctly.
Now, the management, Far East Organisation revamped the whole building, and renamed it as West Coast Plaza. This was a soft opening celebration

Saw that board in the background?
Spend any amount. and you get a caricature.
Thus the lowest amount they spent, I saw on the receipts, was $0.4o, to get their caricature in ink which worth $30 (for 3-4 weeks delivery), but they get it on the spot.
Of course, they don't know the price of the caricature.
But the queue was long, once the event kicked start.

All children, right? Thanks to the cartoon setting they have set up for me.
Thus, the parents thought the caricatures were for kids.
And the kid stool and table provided for me was painful for my back, after long hours of sitting.

This little baby smudged the drawing, as soon as I passed it to her father. So fast that the father has no time to react. Hahaha...... luckily not on the face.

Curvy hair usually made the caricature more interesting.

Took this photo during my break time.
The girl in white T-shirt was the freelance staff, Cheryl, appointed to help me to manage the queue. She cried and ran away, after being scolded by a China lady on Day 2. Poor girl.

This boy's features were more interesting.
Gave me more excitement in my drawing.

Long long hair. So long that I drew a full body for her caricature, to show its length.

First adult for today.
She told me not to draw her teeth, when it was inked in.
Too late, and her unique feature was in her smile and teeth.
I think it looked good.

2 more adults. Easier job for me. Kids, in general are harder to draw.
First , they can't sit still.
Second, their features are more refined, and less angular (due to baby fats hahaha....), and also hard to exaggerate too. The parents won't like it too, if I over exaggerated their features.
However, sometimes I will make my own decision, when I feel like doing so.

Very active girl. Expressions keep changing. Luckily I managed to capture it.

This boy's caricature turned out to be a little 'surprising' good to me, at least I didn't realise itwhen I started sketching him. Considered out of expectation.

These 2 girls (top, and bottom left) reminded me of those cartoon characters in the Snoopy.

The last one for the day, and her brothers were disappointed, after queueing for hours.
(Told them to come back tomorrow)
No choice, but there's always an end to everything, and there's always be disappointed people.
And another lady kicked up a fuss, said her maid was in the queue, but the maid didn't show Cheryl the receipt. (The rest of the people presented the receipt to her when queueing up). Anyway, it won't be her turn too. She was way behind in the queue.
Not the first time I saw such people, after 14 years of live sketching for events.
It didn't bother me for long too.
