Caricature theme - couple on Mini Cooper convertible

Client's brief:-
"I have given some thought to what I want to see in the design. I don't want it to be a birthday themed caricature, but more something that reflects us as a couple. Though perhaps you can include a brief birthday message somewhere in the design. Perhaps a short "Happy 40th Birthday! Love, Sheri"? That sorta thing...

Meanwhile, here are some things that you can include:
1. He's British and I'm Singaporean so I'd like the design to incorporate landmarks from both countries, perhaps the Palace of Westminster (Big Ben) and the Merlion? I like the cartoon Merlion that I've seen in your previous work. Also I'd like it featured the opposite way i.e. Big Ben on my side and the Merlion on his. Also perhaps you could include the flags (Union Jack for the UK)
2. We're both Arsenal fans, so perhaps one or both of us could be wearing an Arsenal shirt and/or a scarf perhaps? Or you could feature him in an Arsenal shirt while putting me in a taekwondo uniform? I've attached a not so nice pic of myself in one, and another of one of my instructors. Note the logo on the dobok. I'm not a black belt yet, but I wouldn't mind you drawing me in one - artistic licence and all that. Lol...
3. He's a big Audi fan and I'm a MINI Cooper Convertible kinda girl, maybe you can include either or both cars in there? See pics attached - though I'd like the MINI in red please.
4. If both cars are not possible could you include a Trek bike? Perhaps the Audi R8 with the EX5? I've attached pics of both our bikes here. The EX 5 WSD is my bike while his is the EX 7.
5. We're both into Apple, photography and movies, and I work in theatre while he's a treasurer. Could you incorporate some of that in the design? Perhaps an SLR camera, an apple logo or macbooks, iphones or a film reel here and there?
6. As for the people (us!) in the design, I'd like you to feaure us in a couple-friendly position, either holdings hands, him hugging me from behind or faces close togethere, etc? You decide what's best. Oh, and please include my new Oakley glasses as attached (the solo pic) (that I recently lost) instead of the old ones featured in some of the pics. And I've got short, spiky reddish-brown hair which may not reflected in these old pics, while Stephen keeps his hair closely cropped (I shave it for him!)
Some of my favourite works of yours are the one of the British Indian couple and the Chip n Dale one. The midnight blue background looks quite interesting visually. But then I'd leave it to you to decide it it'll look good with everything else."

Couple on Mini Cooper convertible A4
Long long request. This client wanted too many stuffs to be included in this drawing.
Of course, I have to selectively choose what's deemed fit.

Think Mini Cooper is the most popular car requested by my clients.

Her reaction, upon seeing this caricature:-
"Wow! It's perfect!"

SMS from the her, after she left:-
"Hi Jit, just got back & had a proper look. I think it's damn cool!"

Caricature theme - Mini Cooper

Caricatures couple Mini Cooper A4
Mini Cooper caricature this time.

This girl loves it.

Her boy boy wanted to present this caricature artwork with both of them in red Mini Cooper, to her as their third anniversary gift.

This was a urgent job, to be delivered in a few days' time.

I have so many things on hand to settle that few days, and I missed out on the wordings and the number "1803". Forgot to scan it into sofycopy too. How can I make such a mistake?!

I only found out when the client collected.

Worse was that he needed it on that same day, and it was already framed up.

Thus, I have to buy a plier from a hardware shop nearby. Take out the drawing, added in the wordings and number, scanned it and burned on cd, delivered it to my frame supplier to put it back into the frame. No choice, and the client can only collect in the evening, but at least he still can get it on the same day, but few hours late. Phew!

When I bring it back to my frame supplier, he said he was curious too. There was no number written on it. He told me previous there was a caricature drawn by me. He bought that number, and nearly strike the first price in 4D. Think he must be looking towards my car caricatures with numbers on it. Hahaha!!! Too bad. I don't buy 4D. Don't want to donate my money to Singapore Pool like that.

Caricature theme - wedding on Mini Cooper convertible

Browsing through this client's email for the brief, and quite surprised that she first contacted me on 27 Dec 2007 (wow, 2 years ago), stating that "...We need it either by june 08 or end of 08..."

She finally placed her order recently:-
"Hi Jit,

I decided to do a Caricature in colour marker with background and body for my actual day wedding (14 Nov 2009) as my wedding photos doesnt turn out well.

Requirements:
1. Background will be Singapore Polytechnic, this is where we know each other :)
2. Both of us sitted in an open top mini cooper (pepper white color) (see attached - Wedding car) looking back and with a 'We're Married' sign hanging wording (similar to this design: http://www.flickr.com/photos/caricature/2974049493/ )
3. Groom wearing black suit, bride hair with simple tiara & veil (preferably no perm hair)"

My impression of Singapore Polytechnic was not like this building. This was searched online.

"Hi Jit,

I will drop you another email regarding another drawing for my cousin wedding in Dec. Waiting for her email. "

Oh, thank you.:)

Caricature theme - convertible Mini Cooper

Shopper caricature on convertible Mini Cooper
A returned client's order, for her best friend.
This lady loves Mini Cooper, shopping at Takashimaya, branded items like Calvin Klein and Channel, dining and Mos Burger and Coffee Bean.
The hopping frog is a must, as stated by the client, as her (This lady in the caricature) boyfriend's nickname is 'Frog'.

What I like most here, is the car. I think I got a better (shorter and cuter) proportion this time.
It has the dynamic look, which spiced up the whole drawing.

Caricature for SafMarine

Client's request:-
"picture of the car n guy in the Viking hat to be drawn.
actually the guy in the Viking hat is the same guy in picture 1.

the mini car has a sun-roof n the guy has his head coming out of the sun-roof.
do ensure that the word 'Safmarine' is clearly visible.

backdrop to hv Singapore Flyer."

Caricature for SafMarine on Sunroof Mini Cooper
Usually, I will draw car caricature in landscape format, A3 size.
But in this case, the client wanted the Viking hat and the subject's head popping out from the Mini Cooper sun-roof, and she wanted it done in A4 size.
Thus I have to squeeze the car horizontally. Rather restrictive but the outcome is quite satisfying. It will look cuter when the car body is shorter.

Just Married digital wedding couple caricatures on convertible Mini Cooper

Client's (from Switzerland) brief:-
"Hello Jit

We'd like to order one of your caricature in colour with background,
body and a theme.
We checked a lot of your examples on the website and we already have
our favourite (see picture just_married_car.jpg).
We just would like to change a few little things in this picture: the
steering whel should be on the left side and it's okay if the man is
driving.
Then we'd like to have some cans behind the car (car is pulling the
cans), similar to picture "just_married_cans.jpg".

We prefer the coloring of the picture "couple01.jpg" because it is
more restrained than in all your other caricatures like
"couple02.jpg".
We do also like the blue glow/shadow around the caricature
"couple01.jpg". We think you will see if this wish fits to our
caricature.
If you think something similar will fit much better then please feel
free and go for it."

"Just Married' digital wedding couple caricatures on convertible Mini Cooper
I did the line sketch and added a light wash over the digital sketch.
It is still hand-drawn. Instead on paper, I sketched on computer.
Many of my clients have the wrong impression that digital means that it is done using software and filters, with ease.
But the fact is no!
I used the brush tool in Photoshop like I used for drawing on paper with pencil, pen and watercolour brushes. It still requires the drawing skill to get it done. You will get a better idea if you look at the video I have captured of the creation process, from scratch to finish, at the bottom of this post.

Client's feedback:-
"Hello Jit
Thank you for your great work. We like it!........
What I did yesterday, was brightening a bit the background... The colors were a little to intensive for me.
Our faces look great, especially the one of my wife... you were drawing her just perfectly, like she really is! I really love her carricature.
So thank you once again... right now I'm downloading the video... quite curious what it is. :-)
We will definitely reccommend you to our friends!
We wish you all the best and good business.
Olivier & Daniela"

I sent the video to the client. He dropped me another email:-
"Wow, I just watched the video. I'm very impressed to see how you did it... you're really talented.
Thank you so much for sending us the video. Awesome!

Tell me, how long did it take to draw our carricature?"

It's 5-7 hours!

"Allright, very interesting. I totally underestimated the necessary time. I thought about 2-4 hours....and I wish I would be so talented like you. :-)"

Caricature themes = Shopping and Mini Cooper

Putting these 2 caricatures in one post was because there were ordered by the same client for her friends as birthday gifts.

A shopping theme. Ladies love shopping. So was this girl.

A purple new model mini-cooper, rather unique colour which I didn't see in real-life. Her another favourite was Hello Kitty. The number on the number plate was her date of birth.

caricature theme - Mini Cooper

This caricature was done this morning.
As mentioned in previous post, I may not draw theslanted tyre. My initial idea is to make the whole Mini Cooper looks cute but stout, thinking of giving it fat and thick tyres. After looking at the sketch, I thought it looks ordinary. Hence, I slanted the tyres again.
The client's ( my loyal customer) comment was cute. Haha.... Glad that she likes it.
Hopefully the birthday girl likes it too!

Caricature for Jones Lang LaSalle

Caricature for Jones Lang Lasalle Mini Cooper revised
The client requested to redraw this based on another photo, with a fee.
She felt that the caricature of Rod Routh was good, and very close, but not for Chris Nicholl.
I think the problem was due to the lighting of the photo provided (it was pretty flat), whereby the facial muscles need colour shading to bring them out. I tried not to use too many lines for caricature in ink.

Caricature theme - Peugeot 206

Just done!
Hot and fresh from the oven!
The client requested to have a bright orange Peugeot 206, with the J&L on it.
In a few days time, I will be drawing a caricature on a Mini Cooper.
Still thinking whether I should draw this type of slanting tyres.
