Revision to Kolam Ayer perspectives

My client CH2M, requested to make some modifications to the 'screws' at the deck, as they think the original is too huge. I have spent some time in rendering this portion.
Re-looking at these perspectives, they are still a nightmare to me.

illustration for Knowledge Director - iN2015

This is the illustration (as mentioned earlier)I have done for Knowledge Director for their tender for the iN2015 (Intelligent Nation) Singapore project (on the education part), as announced by the government last week.
This is to illustrate by 2015, how the student learn through IT technology like wireless network.
The students' learning not only confined to classroom and books.
They learn through web conference, observatory etc through devices like tablet PCs, PDA, webcam and handphones. They learn through playing games etc. Informations are transfered to their portable devices when they visit zoo and art museum.

In fact, I have done several 2D and 3d visuals and conceptual sketches for them for their proposals of School of the Future in Gao Xiong (Taiwan), River Kutai (Indonesia) etc earlier this year.

Caricature orders from oversea

These are some of the orders from oversea, through internet and emails.
They are from UK, US, Canada and Japan.


His favourite is definitely Tiger Beer.


She loves singing.


This guy loves fishing.


This one, the son attending their wedding held this year.


Their dream car - red Lamborghini, with tropical setting along a beach.


This is a unique theme, based on the comics of Video-Ai, in which the girls comes out from the TV.
In this case, the girl wants to give the guy a caricature gift.
This guy loves his MacBook and Nikon Camera.
Hence, she requested to come out from his Mac screen and he was surprised, reach out to grab his camera, to take a snapshot of her.

Caricature theme - other types of wedding

These are different from the normal modern wedding theme which I am always requested to draw.


This one is the Indian wedding theme.
I have to pay special attention to the designs and patterns of the clothing, as it is not what I have always drawn. Background is the Taj Mahal, landmarks of India, and their guests, of course, imaginary.
This is used as graphis for their wedding invitation card.


This is a special one. A wedding of a Filipino guy and a Chinese lady.
However, they want a Bollywood movie style in terms of theme - the sari and the coconut tree.
The invitation message is on the signpost.
It is meant to be put at the entrance to the wedding hall.

Caricatures printed on a wedding invitation card

A client just walked in to place an order for caricature.
She said she saw the above caricatures of her friend (the bride) printed on the wedding invitation card sent to her this March.
It's a pity she has dumped the invitation card.
If not, I can get her to send me a snapshot to take a look.

Comic illustration - Thousand-Li-Eyes Demon

This illustration was done March last year, for a competition on using graphic tablet.
This competition is held by a local government organisation.
Haha.... too long ago and I can't remember which one it is.
After submission, I keep going back to that website to see the result.
However, after a few months of the closing date for submission, I still don't see them posting the result.
I didn't any notice of the result from them.
I guess I didn't get it.
I happened to browse through my folder and see this illustration just now.
Hence, I decided to post it up here.
This competion is to use our imagination to create our version of those Chinese gods and demons using the graphic tablet to illustrate. I use a mixture of 2 softwares - Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop.
This creature/demon is my version of Thousand-Li-Eyes Demon (in Chinese is 'Qian Li Yan').
It used to be a demonbefore being suppressed by a Chinese God (haha...can't remeeber who is it too).
He lived in the sea and came out at night.
Comic drawings used to be my hobby during my school days.
I draw on tables, books and any surfaces which I can draw. I draw during classes, tests, examinations, lectures, leisure time...... I just love it. I have even drawn 2 series of comics - unpublished (incomplete too.)! Hahaha......
However, when I started working as a portrait artist after graduation from National University of Singapore (Architectural Studies), I come to realise that I can't survive in Singapore, being a comic artist. Anotherr reason is that I get better and faster money being a portrait artist and caricaturist. I still draw comics during my first few years of working as a portrait artist. However, recently my workload is too much for me to handle, I begin to draw less comics nowadays - in fact, none recently. (My financial burden doesn't allow me to do so too!) What a sad thing.........
On the brighter side, drawing faces is my passion too.
Perhaps one day, I may pick it up again, and start drawing comics again....... and become a comic artist! Hopefully............

Caricatures in Superman theme

As mentioned in previous post, my clients love the Superman theme. These are some of my clients who requested for this theme.


This one, done in June this year, is for the boss of Citigroup Trade, with him flying above the containers in PSa, Singapore.


This is a farewell gift for this temporary CEO for National Kidney Foundation, Singapore.
This gift is to thank him for his effort to revamp the organisation. It is done in April this year.

Caricatures for Xilinx, Singapore

These caricatures are done on an A2 size marker paper.
The usual size is A3.
However, as the client requested to have the milestones achieved by this guy - Joe Forgy, to be clearly visible (see the 4 crystals poppng out from the ground), I propose a A2 size, and she accepted it.
In the brief, He will be portrayed as Super Joe and his wife will be a Wonderwoman S (Stacy). She's the woman behind behind who gives him support.
Heheh...... This is a more explosive theme, quite fun to draw.


This is the framed up caricatures.
This is for my client to see, as she will not get to see it, given that the courier will pick it up and post it out to this guy Joe straightaway.



This caricature was done for the same company - Xilinx in March this year.
The client was this muscular guy to burst his tuxedo to show his muscle.
I gave him in red underwear.

Caricature theme - proposal in Japan

Just finished on time.
This client is my old client who used to have his caricatures drawn by me when I am busking along Orchard Road few years back.
This time round, he's using this caricature to propose to his fiancee.
The theme is specified by him, kneeling down with a diamond ring in his hand. His fiancee in pink Kimono and with the Carebear next to her. (I think she must be loving this bear very much. It is drawn in previous caricatures too) She is sitting on a wooden bench under a cherry blossomed tree.
Let's wish him all the best in his proposal!

At last, the illustration is done!
However, to protect my client's interest, I still can't post it up on this blog yet.
Just understand from them that they will submit tomorrow, but the deadline for the submission is this Friday, 4pm. Hence, I can only post it up to share my thoughts with you this Friday, instead of Thursday, as mentioned earlier.
Now I have to work on a caricature of a couple, collecting at 4:30pm later.
I will post the caricatures up later when it is done.

Caricatures of a couple on a moon

Just rushed this out among my tight work schedule.
This China lady, whose studying in a private school here, wanted to send this caricature to her boyfriend in Liao Ning, China. She wants it to reach him by 25th of this month.
The moon and star theme, together with the wordings, of course, are her ideas.

Still working hard on that illustration...................

By the way, today is my gallery's second year (contract date) in China Square.
I have just renew for another year yesterday.
This buidling will be undergoing revamp in April 2008.
I have to look for another place to move to during this period.

No artwork to post up today.

I am working on a project these few days.
I can't reveal much till this Thursday, the deadline for the submission.
I need a few days to do this illustration, and it has to be done by this Wednesday.
You can see how much time and effort I have to put in.
And it happens that I have a few caricature order deadlines to be met this Tuesday and Wednesday. Stressed..................

Caricatures of CEOs of Lufthansa Technik and Air Deccan

Just finished these caricatures for the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of Lufthansa Technik and Air Deccan. This is meant to be a gift from the CEO of Lufthansa Technik to the CEO of Air Deccan. They have recently signed an contract in which Lufthansa Technik is maintaining the airplanes for Air Deccan.

Initially, they get a caricature of CEO of Air Deccan (you can see on their official website) done by another caricaturist (somewhere, not in Singapore I think - the style doesn't look like what I have seen of Singapore caricaturist). The client requested me to do another one of their CEO (Lufthansa Technik) and make it a pair, frame up and present to the CEO of Air Deccan as a gift.
I think it wouldn't look good as the styles are different. Moreover, the original caricature of Air Deccan CEO aren't really related to the contract signed, in terms of theme. Hence I propose to have them redrawn in a single piece. In this caricature artwork, they shake hand with each other, one thumbs up, and the other pointing to his Air Deccan plane, with words of 'maintained by Lufthansa Technik' and both logos on it.

The client told me that they don't have the Air Deccan CEO's photo.
I went to Google image to search.
To my surprise, I managed to get his photo there.
The client knows his name. Hence, I think we should get the right photo, emmm.... I am crossing my fingers initially, as the photo looks quite different from that put up on his website. However, I think this CEO loves his caricature so much so that he put it next to his logo.

Portrait in pencil of a Malay lady

I seldom put up portraits done in pencil on my blog - in fact, none so far.
This portrait in pencil of a Malay lady was done this morning around 2am.
I think the shading is quite good, despite that the original photo is under-exposed.

Caricature live sketching for Coutts Dinner and Dance 2006 - Friday the 13th

This event was held today - Friday the 13th. This was also the name of the event.
The venue is at Fort Canning Gallery, SIngapore.
I think that's why they get the theme for this event - Dracula Era.
All the staff from Coutts were dressed either into Draculas, vampires etc.

Caricatures for American Express (AMEX), Singapore

Just finished drawing this group caricatures for AMEX.
I have hard time stitching the scan-in parts for this artwork, as the original is A2 size.
Again, this is a farewell gift, for the boss who loves diving.
We have people who loves cooking, reading, dancing, fishing and tennis here.
The tennis theme may be a bit out of the other themes.
Hence, I have the fisherman caught a fish, threw towards the tennis guy, who in turn hit it and landed on a barbeque bit, for the 2 chefs to cook. The ladies will be sitting and reading, sun-bathing and relaxing, waiting for the food.
I intentionally draw it in portrait format. It is harder to draw, as compared to the landscape format. It is harder to reach and draw those parts on top, and not to smudge the bottom part of the drawing. However, I think the result is better. Do you think so?
Initially, the client wants to have different flags of the countries each of this staff in-charge of.
However, I think it will spoil the overall feel of the caricature layout, and persuade them not to include. they accepted it.

Caricature for SIngapore Airlines

Nowadays, my clients tend to need the caricature very urgent and their order is the very last minute.
This client from SIA, who has a caricature group done by me few years back when I am still drawing in Clarke Quay, called me this morning around 11am, request to have this caricature done in about 2 hours' time.
I am working on the group caricatures for American Express (AMEX) today (collection tomorrow), expect no disturbance and concentrate on the caricatures for one whole day. Hence, I have to put it aside for awhile and finish this SIA ordder. It is meant to be a gift for the Boss's Day next Monday.

Her initial order is black and white caricature in ink.
When she came to pick up just now, she decided to add colour to it.
Of course, in colour marker, it brings out the facial muscle better, and also distinguish the body hair and caption etc. I would think it simply brightens up the whole caricature. Don't you think so?

Caricatures for Nokia, Singapore

Another urgent caricature order from the same client again.
Of course, there will be a surcharge for the express service.
The Client rang me up yesterday afternoon, requesting to get a caricature done for her boss's boss.
The theme is tennis, as this is his hobby.
I have to rush it last night and send for framing this morning.
She will be collecting this framed caricature this evening.

Caricatures for FedEx, Singapore

This is a farewell gift from the staff in FedEx to a boss who's leaving the department.
He likes golf.
As the client didn't provide much informations of the rest, I have the golf theme as the main and only theme for this caricature artwork. Another reason, is to make this a simple and straight forward, as compared to the previous caricature groups.
I have him standing on the peak of a slope, showing his high position.
Since I have done so many caricature groups in landscape format, I am thinking to have a change now - to portrait format.
I am going to start on another caricature group of American Express later. What format and how should I go about it? My mind is still blank at this moment. Hahaha.......

Caricatures for Nokia, Singapore

This is an urgent job.
Order is confirmed just now.
I have just finished this, and will be sending in for framing later.
The client will be collecting this framed caricature tomorrow.
