Right after the gig for VISA at Sentosa, which ended at 7pm, I rushed down to 39 Harding Road (in Tanglin area) - The White Rabbit Restaurant. I missed it for the first drive, as it looked like a church to me from the exterior.:D.
It was meant to be a pre-dinner entertainment for the guests, from 6:30pm-7:30pm, but the client decided to push it back to 8pm (till 9pm) for me, given I was engaged in previous gig till 7pm.
However, I will need to do roving caricatures, given that almost all the guests were present at this time, and they started mingling around.
This was my first roving caricature after many years, which I usually don't do. It will somehow affect the quality of the sketches, given that I don't have the best drawing setup,
After many (16) years in this profession (and intensive practice recently), I have confidence in doing roving caricatures. I just need the right tools for the right job. Instead of the usual ink (bottle) and brush, I use the new black Copic marker with the brush nip. This doesn't need regular dipping for ink (thus I don't need the ink bottle, and a table). I have the pencil and pen in my pocket. I used my iPhone 4 as my camera (to replace my Nikon D80) for snapping of subject with caricatures. With the sketch pad in hand, I started roving to do my sketches.
Arha... I saw many Superheroes as soon as I reached the venue - Flash, Superman, Super Saiyan Goku (from DragonBall Z)....
Batman was here too!
The Crocodile Buddies....
They wanted to have 3 of them together in one A4 size paper.
3 more challenges of this drawing -
First, I got to squat down to sketch, since they were seated.
Second, they were chatting away (instead of keeping still) when I was sketching them.
Last, extremely dim lighting in the garden where I was sketching.
Bad part of iPhone 4 with flash.... the drawing was over-exposed till I can't see the lines clearly in this photo. Good experience. I need to tap and focus on the drawing when snapped under low light condition next time.
Moving into the restaurant.... dim lighting too.
Another victim - Super Saiyan Goku.
He saw my caricature for Goku, and he wanted one Superman caricature for himself too.
The ball started rolling and I don't have to go around hunting for victims.
Batwoman....
Hey... Mr Incredible was giving a speech. The right size for the right character. I didn't have a chance to sketch him.....
Supergirl!
X-Men Wolverine! He was amazed that I can sketch him with a few simple tools.:D
Last one.
Bye bye, Mr Incredible.....
