caricature live sketching for Singapore Social Development Network (SDN) First Anniversary

A 3-hour (7pm-10pm) gig at Scape Warehouse.

The client requested for 2 caricaturists.
This time, I got Kamal to partner me.

Since it is a party, we can't expect very good lighting for drawing.
Thank goodness that the client prepared 2 table lamps for us.
The guests only started to come in around 7:30pm.
I was rather surprised that I did 29 caricatures in 2.5 hours, which wasn't my normal speed of 10 caricatures per hour. Looks like the recent constant practice (everyday) did help me to caricature with likeness more efficiently.:)

Looks like I have a good start for this gig.

Caricature theme - property agent

Client's brief:-
"Hi Jit,

I’m not sure if you remember me but I placed an order with you previously for our School’s Director who was leaving Temasek Polytechnic for Republic Polytechnic a few years back.

My dad’s birthday is round the corner (ok, it’s TOMORROW!) and I’d like to get a caricature of him done. Here’s some background:

 He’s a real-estate agent
 He loves his job very much
 He’s always on the mobile phone!
 (If you could draw him with more hair, I think he’d like that! 

If you could draw him with some houses in the background (mix of buildings and landed houses) along with big money signs and holding a mobile phone, that would be awesome....."

The client's client wanted less frown, and a more smiley face.

One big misconception of the layman is that we the artists are the magician. We can just change the expression easily, even though it is not shown in the reference photo.
In this case, the smile. I can't just make him smile bigger, as the facial muscles around his mouth will change too. If I do it based on imagination, high chance is that I will lose his likeness, as everyone has their own unique features (in this case, the smile). To put it simple, I can't put your smile on his face. That is not him, not his lips, and face shapes etc.

Not complaining here, but just to share some knowledge about faces and portraits.:)
